He passed away Dec. 18, 2015, at the age of 84. David grew up on a ranch and attended school in Prairie City, Ore. He married Shirley Ella Allen on Dec. 25, 1949. Around 1953 David and Shirley worked and mined in Arizona and Montana with Shirley’s fa- ther, Frank Allen. They ranched and raised their family in Here- ford and Unity. They raised Her- eford and Angus cattle and put up their own hay. David took classes at Treasure Valley Community College in order to do his own veterinary work and was skilled with all heavy equipment. In 1974 they moved to 100 acres out of Baker, where they lived for 38 years until moving to Enterprise in July 2012. David loved his family, cattle ranching, the cow dogs, snow, water skiing, boating and À ying their Cessna 182 with Shirley. David was an active member of the Burnt River Community through the school board, Soil and Water Conservation Districts and the Election Board. He enjoyed art, music, learning, playing high school football and basketball, snowmobiling and downhill skiing. He supported all of his children’s sports and endeavors. John was born March 23, 1934, in Bettendorf, Iowa, to John T. Hillock and Grace Grandy. John had three sisters — Grace, Betty and Nancy — and was the youngest. Of course, his big sisters spoiled him. He attended school in Dav- enport, Iowa, and graduated from San Mateo Junior Col- lege in Redwood City, Calif. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 and was stationed at San Diego and Moffett Field near Sunnyvale, Calif. While at Moffett Field, John was an Aircraft Electrician and showed a natural ability and loved the work. Upon is dis- charge from the Navy, his commanding of¿ cer arranged for John to apprentice with a commercial electrical shop in Red- wood City, Calif; this began his 45-year love of the trade. John and his wife, Ida, purchased Enterprise Electric in 1969 from Pat Paterson where John’s son, John, and grandson, Jared, continue to run the business. John was most proud of the ser- vice he provided the people of Wallowa County and the time he spent working at the Nuclear Accelerator at Stanford University in California. John married Ida Josephine Donleavy on Sept. 6, 1952. His son, John, (Gail) was born in 1954 and daughter, Grace, (Doug Sandlin) arrived in 1956. John had ¿ ve grandchildren: Jared, Andy, Celeste, Justin and Rebecca; seven great grandchildren; and lifelong friends Garnet and Joan Pierce. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ida and sisters Grace and Betty. John was a collector of guns, cars and tools. He loved to hunt, ¿ sh and travel to Iowa to be with his sisters, nieces and nephews. No services are planned at this time; the family is planning a get-together in the spring because of travel conditions. In lieu of À owers the family suggests donations to the Wallowa Valley Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 53, Enterprise, OR, 97828.
