By Steve Tool Wallowa County Chieftain ______________________________________________ An enthusiastic audience packed the Josephy Center on Dec. 20 for the third annual Community Christmas Concert, a joint effort by the Josephy Center and the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance. Local musician and Wallowa Valley Music Alliance Director Janis Carper played the roles of both emcee and performer for the evening. The concert started with an Alpenhorn duet played from the center’s upstairs area by Bruce and Alex Coutant, later joined by horn player Mark Eubanks. Performances included more than a dozen people, with various combinations of the performers. The audience was treated to a wide range of instruments, including guitar, piano, cello, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, alpenhorns and trumpets. One of the more unusual ensembles included cello, electric guitar, oboe and bassoon performing a rousing version of the rock staple “Louie, Louie,” interspersed with classic Christmas songs and the James Bond theme. The two-hour concert opened with strains of the alpenhorns and wrapped up with Janis Carper’s “Holiday Feeling Tonight.” Bob Webb was in charge of setting up the sound system (with help). He also performed with partner Heidi Muller and other musicians and later said the evening went well. Steve Tool/Chieftain The ubiquitous Brann family, Wallowa County’s answer to the Von Trapps, performed several songs during the evening. “Heidi and I really love the sense of community we feel when all the people come together to join the Josephy Center and the WVMA in celebrating the Christmas season,” Webb said. The center’s director, Cheryl Coughlan, also was enthusiastic. “It was a great show, and we enjoy working with the music alliance on these shows because they’re important to our community,” Coughlan said. Wallowa Valley Music Alliance Director Janis Carper has organized and performed at the concerts for nearly a decade. “We’re very pleased with the turnout. I was a little concerned it might get too crowded, but it was perfect,” Carper said. One modification Carper made this year was to limit the amount of performers in order to keep the concert down to two hours. “This show used to run well over two and a half hours. I thought it was much more streamlined and doable this year.” Carper sees a long future for the Christmas concerts. “I don’t see why we’d stop. It’s been a fun and popular event every year, so we’ll keep doing it.” ALSO, That portion of Lot 4, Block G, Unit No. 2, IMNAHA RIVER WOODS SUBDIVISION (being a part of Section 34, Township 3 South, Range 48 East of the Willamette Merid- ian, and HES #52 in Township 4 South, Range 48 East of the Willamette Meridian(m, Wallow County, Oregon, as shown by the Plat thereof on file and record in the Office of the County Clerk of said County and State in Book 2 of Plats, Page 50, lying Northerly and Easterly of the following described line: BEGINNING at a point on the West line of Lot 4, Block G, Unit No. 2, Imnaha River Woods Subdivision, Wallowa County, Oregon, 75 feet North from the Southwest corner of said Lot 4, at the intersection of an existing fence with said West line; thence Southeasterly along or very near said fence line to the Southeast corner of said Lot 4.
