A8 News wallowa.com October 28, 2015 Wallowa County Chieftain New 1946 Ford arrives at show room 100 YEARS AGO Oct. 28, 1915 OUT OF THE PAST The largest blocks of stone ever brought in from the Bowl- by quarry east of Swamp Creek are being hauled for the pro- spective store building of the E.M.&M. company. One block weighs 4,014 pounds and an- other 3,700. Four such stones are called for in the plans of the building. The hunting season closes Sunday night and sportsmen are thick in the woods all over the county this week. Reports indicate that not many deer have been killed this year. The hunt- ing grounds grow smaller in area each season, with the increase in settlers. This fall has been so dry with neither rain nor snow, that it has been extremely dif¿cult to track the deer, which have not yet taken to their haunts in the lower level. R.B. Bowman’s sawmill, six miles south of Lostine, burned to the ground Friday morning. The loss is estimated at $4,000, partly covered with insurance. The new Ford is massive in ap- pearance, shows no skimping of materials, and has a number of re¿nements over the 1942 models. The Halladay plane landed in the Lester Robison ¿eld in Imnaha) Wednesday evening bringing Lou Warnock and Le- land Duckett in from Joseph. This was the ¿rst plane ever to land on Imnaha.
