A2 News/Obituaries/Weather wallowa.com September 23, 2015 Wallowa County Chieftain Wallowa County Cultural Trust offers grants for arts and humanities The Wallowa County Cul- tural Trust Coalition says it has approximately $6,000 available for grants supporting the arts, humanities, heritage and culture in Wallowa County for 2016. Grants are generally giv- en in the amount of $250- $1,000. Individuals and orga- nizations are encouraged to apply. Projects must contain a public component that in- creases access to local cul- ture. Applications are available online through the Wallowa Valley Arts Council website under Partnership Organiza- tions (www.wallowavalley- arts.org/partnership). They may also be requested from Janet Pulsifer by emailing her at janet.pulsifer@gmail. com. For more information, phone 541-398-0189. Applications for 2016 must be received by Oct. 31, 2015. The WCCTC will meet immediately afterward to re- view applications, make de- cisions and notify applicants. O BITUARIES Glen Knopf Feb. 23, 1927 – Sept. 11, 2015 Ielene Kuhn Searles Feb. 1, 1926 – Sept. 9, 2015 Deborah Love Jan. 26, 1951 – Sept. 13, 2015 Glen Irving Knopf, 88, of Walla Walla, Wash., formerly of Wallowa County, died Sept. 11, 2015, at 4:30 a.m. Glen was born on Feb. 23, 1927, in Miles City, Mont., to Irving Knopf and Martha (Wynes) Knopf. He served in World War II as a US Navy diver in the Pacifi c Theater. Glen married Doris June Neuhauser on April 5, 1946, in Bremerton, Wash.. Glen spent the fi rst six decades of his life in Kitsap County with his wife and three children. He owned and operated Bremerton Music Company and later Glen’s Guns. He also was a deputy reserve offi cer for the Bremerton Police Department and the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Department. He relocated with Doris to Wallowa County in 1989. He later wed his second wife Lauretta Cummins on Aug. 1, 1999, and relocated to Walla Walla. Glen was a sportsman, adventurer, scuba diver and poet. He also enjoyed hunting as well as marksmanship, and was always willing to share the simple joy of fi shing. Later in life he realized one of his dreams, and learned how to fl y. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Doris. He is survived by his second wife Lauretta, his three children, Eric (Poppy) Knopf of Poulsbo, Wash., Luane Clymo of Haines, Ore., and Suellen (Leo) Johnston of Bremerton, fi ve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his sister Sally (Lynn) Zoric of Colorado, and two nephews. A graveside service was held on Sept. 18 at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Walla Walla. Ielene Ruth Kuhn Searles, 89, passed away peacefully Sept. 9, 2015. A public graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Enterprise Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Enterprise Christian Church. Ielene was born in Joseph to her parents Harold and Goldie Kuhn. She was raised on the family ranch in the Paradise Ridge area where she went to grade school. She attended Enterprise High School, graduating in 1944. She married Victor Keith Searles on May 2, 1945, at which time Keith was serving in the Army-Air Corps during WWII. Together, they farmed on Alder Slope and raised four children. Ielene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor Keith, sister Noma Martin, and daughter Susan Jill. She is survived by son Kerry Searles of Enterprise, son Kent Searles of Tillamook, and daughter Jolene Searles of Joseph. She has 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Ielene was a longtime member of Enterprise Christian Church. She served as a Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader, and was active in the Oregon Eastern Star. In lieu of fl owers, and upon her request, she has asked that any desired donations be made to the Enterprise Christian Church Building Fund, 207 E. Main St., Enterprise, OR 97828. Deborah Ruth Love, 64, of La Grande, passed away at home with her family by her side on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015. A memorial service was held at Loveland Funeral Chapel on Monday, Sept. 21. Deborah was born Jan. 26, 1951, in Enterprise to John and Ruth (Hale) Kriwox. She resided in Wallowa where she graduated from high school. She met William E. Love of Keating and they were married on Feb. 27, 1970, in Las Vegas, Nev. They would soon move back to Wallowa where they raised two boys, Gabe and Willie. Deborah was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Deborah is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Love; son, Gabe of La Grande; son, Willie and his wife Corrie of Corvallis with their children Brock and Piper; parents, John and Ruth Kriwox of Wallowa; brother, AJ Kriwox and his wife Jean of Jerome, Idaho, and seven nieces and nephews.
