Lumberjacks compete WALLOWA — Lumber- jacks competed in dramatic events at the annual Maxville Gathering Saturday, Aug. 22, as several hundred attendees celebrated the history of the early 20th century logging town of Maxville, which was located 20 miles north of this small city. At the West Coast Lum- berjack Show, sponsored by Boise Cascade, professional loggers engaged in chainsaw speed contests, an axe-throw- ing event, springboard chop- ping and everyone got wet at the log-rolling competition. Local performers provid- ed live music, with a guest appearance by Dom Flemons, the Grammy-winning sing- Community Calendar: Talk; concert Friday, Aug. 28 Wallowology presentation: “Nez Perce Fisheries: Stead- fast Stewardship & Evolving Management in the Wallowas,” 7 p.m. at 508 N. Main, Joseph. Featuring Jim Harbeck of Nez Perce Tribe Fisheries. Tuesday, Sept. 1 Special Brown Bag Lunch, noon at Josephy Center in Jo- seph, with Marilyn Nagele-Ap- plegate and Rodney Applegate. Marilyn is author of “Lock, Stock and Boards: The Harris Pine Mills Story,” a recently published book about Clyde and Mary Harris, who founded the Milton Box Company in the ear- ly 1900s. Powerful Tools for Caregivers Starting Tuesday, September 8 th , Community Connection of Wallowa County will be sponsoring a Powerful Tools for Caregivers workshop. This six week workshop will be held on Tuesdays from 10:00 am - 11:30am at the Wallowa Senior Center, 204 Second St. in Wallowa. This workshop is geared toward providing information to Family Caregivers on the necessity of caring for themselves, so they do not become ill or burnt out as a result of the care they provide. This is the second Powerful Tools for Caregivers workshop offered by Community Connection of Wallowa County. The first workshop was held in February in Enterprise and was a huge success.
