LETTERS: We need to keep our public lands public Continued from Page A4 Keep and support public lands To the Editor: Senator Ron Wyden’s “7 Wonders of Oregon” tour brought us to what many believe is the most majestic part of Oregon — the Wal- lowa Mountains. Hunters and anglers — like me — come to these mountains for solitude. They are rugged and remote. When visitors come to hunt or fish in these mountains, they not only receive the mountain’s bounty, but they give back to the community by support- ing the local economy. It’s crucial to hunters, anglers, hikers, and all out- door enthusiasts that public lands remain open to all of us. Some in Congress have proposed selling our nation- al public lands; we need to keep public lands in public hands. The Wallowas are the heartbeat of the economy here. And there are other at- tacks being launched in Congress. The Land and Wa- ter Conservation Fund is at risk of not being used for its intended purposes. Instead of investing in increasing access by sportsmen to our public lands, members of Congress are trying to use these funds to pay for gen- eral maintenance of national parks, among other purpos- es. Plus, we have only three months before the Land and Water Conservation Fund expires. Losing this resource would be devastating for conservation. I thank Senator Wyden for being a champion of public lands and supporting the tools that protect our outdoor heritage and local economies. I hope his bill Moffit Tours Wallowa County Chess Club 1-800-533-5222 or 541-569-2495 moffittours@gmail.com Welcome Tourists and Players of all levels! FREE!
