Over 200 classic cars and trucks lined both sides of the city’s Main Street from one end of town to the Steve Tool/Chieftain Steve Tool/Chieftain This oddity from Washington really epitomizes the term “rat rod.” They are taking part in the Ragman Cruise. But don’t count our local boys out. Cade Steen of Joseph and Lane Bailey of Pendleton will be riding, too. These guys are good, but are they good enough to ride the stock that contractors are bringing to the event? We shall see. Oh yeah, that’s what we’re talking about. Bonnie Eckley Rasmussen is bringing the big gelding (and others) from Burns for his third solid year of “no- rides” on the ranch rodeo circuit. See BRONCS, Page A12 Courtesy photo o an active group of AMGC Eastside Senior golfers, the description of a smart car is not a miniature foreign model that parks on a dime, but one with a lot of leg room and a trunk that will hold at least four sets of golf clubs. With an average of 24 local senior mem- bers, who participate at six golf courses throughout Eastern Oregon on a monthly schedule, carpooling is a must, and the more comfortable the ride the better the attitude and play. With Baker City competition held this past Monday, June 15, results of both golf and the 2½-hour car ride will be posted next week. The smart car theory applies to travel for lady golfers too, but besides the golf clubs the gals require additional space for shop- ping bags, gift baskets, personal parapherna- lia, and too, a roomy atmosphere to devour two scoops of melting ice cream cones. Alpine lady golfers travel less than the seniors. During the summer they participate in only three out-of-town invitational tour- naments which include La Grande Coun- try Club, Baker City, and just last week’s Clarkston Quail Ridge where Carol Marr, Sherri Currie and Cheri Lamb competed with 43 other women golfers from outly- ing Washington towns, one gal from as far as Riggins, Idaho. The threesome played ZHOOņ&DUROZLWKDQRXWVWDQGLQJņZRQ sleeves of golf balls, and several door priz- es. Now, an update on the local scoreboard: While Gregg Sturtevant and crew were verticutting (plugging and sanding) the greens to eventually make for more superb putting surfaces, low scores were posted in match play competition, where Dean Duquette defeated Terry Lamb for the championship. In Men’s Day Blind Partner play June 4, Team #2 of Dick Anderson/ Terry Lamb, and Team #5, Ashley Prince/ Harlen Menton, tied with 145. Net Skins: Doug McKinnis, Harlen Menton, Jim Kil- gore, and Jerry Hook. Ladies’ Day Best Ball winners were two- some Carol Marr and Laidee Ann Wolfe. Kris Gurney and Ruby Zollman placed sec- ond. No matter what kind of vehicle you drive, visit us at Alpine Meadows, play some golf, enjoy lunch on the green, and join the fun. Come see why we are more than just a golf course.
