Frank Harold Hamblet,
a resident of Pendleton died
Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at
Walla Walla General Hospital
in Walla Walla, Wash. He was
89 years old.
A Celebration of Life
and Luncheon will be held
Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 1
p.m. at the Wheeler County
Fairgrounds in Fossil, Ore., in
the Isobel Edwards Hall. Sign
the online guestbook at www.

of arrangements.
Harold was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Blackwell, Okla., to
Frank and Ruby (Mahoney) Hamblet. He was an enrolled
member of the Creek Nation Indian Tribe, like his mother and
grandmother before him. He came to Oregon with his folks
when he was 14 years old. Harold thought a lot of his father.
He worked in his younger years in the Starkey area, catching
and breaking wild horses. He always had horses. Harold served
in the United States Navy at the end of WWII as a Fireman
First Class. After eleven months overseas duty he returned to
Oregon in March of 1946 with an Honorable Discharge. Harold
graduated from Reisch Auctioneering School in Mason City,
Iowa, in 1959, a very intensive study course that has graduated
over 30,000 men and women. He has sold just about everything
— so now it’s time to auction off your kids. He worked as a
Ranch Hand & Buckaroo at many ranches in the Alvord Desert,
and Nevada, Oregon and Idaho. He had also worked as a Cat
Skinner in the logging industry, and drove log truck. He liked
music and had a good voice. He enjoyed doing karaoke and
insisted on enjoying chocolate daily.
Harold is survived by his lady friend Koni Schnetzky of
Pendleton, his children Judy Volquardsen and husband Jim
of Metaline Falls, Wash., Linda Bristow and husband John of
Ione, and Dwight Ambrose and wife Kathy of Island City, his
brother Harvey Barber and wife Jane of Tillamook, as well as
many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

a career working for the U.S.
Forest Service. He retired in
1986 after 35 years.
In 1954, he married
Dorothy (Boyce). They had
two boys, Jeffrey Ned, born
in 1955, and Philip George, born in 1958. Dorothy passed
away Dec. 7, 2013.
He moved to Clarkston in 1996 to be near his youngest
son and family.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing or anything doing with
the outdoors.

White City; Philip George Keener, with fiance Bonnie
Engle, of Lewiston, Idaho; grandchildren Paula (Jeremy)
Jorgensen and children Emily and Noah of Canby; John

Plans to restore the Enterprise Ceme-
tery received a nice bump when Bank of
Eastern Oregon donated a $1,000 check
to the Friends of the Enterprise Ceme-
tery. John Bailey, vice-president of the
bank, presented the check to Pat Willis,
newly elected Position 1 director for the
Enterprise Cemetery District.
“These ladies and other people are
doing a tremendous job on getting the
cemetery back in shape, and the Bank of
Eastern Oregon feels it’s a very import-
ant project, and it’s something the com-
munity needs to get behind and be proud
of,” Bailey said.
An enthusiastic Willis thanked Bai-
ley for the check and said, “We’ve
made tremendous strides over the last
two weeks, but we’ve got a lot of work
coming up ahead. To me, the cemetery
is very personal. I buried my husband
up there in 2009 and I want it to be a
beautiful place for everyone. So many
people are up there who have been a
part of my life: business leaders, edu-
cators, log truck drivers, farmers and
ranchers. They formed this community

A $1,000 check from the Bank of Eastern Oregon is a good start to restoring
the Enterprise Cemetery. From left: Jolene Cox, BEO branch manager; Pat Willis,
newly elected Position 1 director of the Enterprise Cemetery District; fundraiser
Judy Wortman; John Bailey, BOE vice president; and Sondra Lozier, founding
member of Friends of the Enterprise cemetery. Lozier and her husband, Kent, also
contributed $1,000 for the cemetery’s restoration.
and we need to make it a beautiful place
for them.”
Sondra Lozier, also a member of the
Friends, mentioned the City of Enterprise
donated to the project as well, including
the installation of the new water lines to
the cemetery. She also said it’s possible
some area teachers may pick out a grave
site and assign students to uncover the
history of the person buried there.
In meantime, Willis has one other
thing she’d like to accomplish for the
cemetery’s future: “I do want to reach
out to the younger generation. See my
white hair? We need some young blood
to help us out,” Willis said with a laugh.
Twelve students from Wal-
lowa County were named to
the winter term dean’s list at
Eastern Oregon University
(EOU), and one local was list-
ed at Blue Mountain Commu-
nity College (BMCC).
Among 528 full-time EOU
students qualifying with a GPA
of 3.5 or higher were Enter-
prise residents Jennifer Jones,
Margaret Hull, Dakota Hull,
Ashtin Olsen, JoAnna Patton,
Kristen Ruckdashel, Cody
Schwendiman,
Stephanie
Simpson and Marta Stangel;
Martin Doud and Emily Ket-
scher, both of Joseph; and Wal-
lowa resident Megan Goller.
At BMCC, Wallowa Coun-
ty’s Emily Spang was listed
within the 3.40 to 3.84 range.
