News wallowa.com May 20, 2015 Hospital wins Top 100 award By Steve Tool Wallowa County Chieftain Wallowa Memorial Hospi- tal recently received a ranking among the HealthStrong Top 100 Critical Access Hospi- tals, an award form iVantage Health Analytics. The group chose WMH from a group of 1,300 critical access hospitals nationwide and inclusion was determined by iVantage’s Hos- pital Strength Index. WMH received the honor from iVan- tage twice in the past. “They have a list of quality related metrics that we report to various agencies, and they rate us on those metrics. She explained the top 100 hos- pitals are not ranked, the list is given in alphabetical order. Word said the hospital scored strongly in all the award catego- ries, but some of its strongest SRLQWVLQFOXGHG¿QDQFLDOVWDELO- ity, patient perspectives, patient outcome, quality of care as well as a number of other categories. She added that the award brings WMH national recognition for its excellence. Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande also received the top 100 award. This means the local region has two top quality critical access hospitals. “We can feel good about the quality of health care where we’re at,” Word said. As much as the award indi- cates the quality of patient care rendered by WMH staff, Word said the award is a testament to the Wallowa Valley community and its unwavering support of the hospital. “The support we get from this community makes this all possible. We wouldn’t be here without them supporting us in our work,” Word said. About 35 men from across the county attend- ed the first annual meeting of the newly formed Men’s Guild 100 Club at the Los- tine Tavern on April 23 to enjoy refreshments, hear a short presentation by Wal- lowa Memorial Hospital &(2 /DUU\ 'DY\ DQG GH- cide on a project to fund with the $100 membership fee each member donates. Sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Health Care Founda- tion, the Men’s Guild 100 is similar to the Women’s Cir- cle 100 Club. “It was time for us to start our own group to sup- port local health care,” said Wallowa Valley Health Care Foundation board member -RKQ +LOORFN ZKR ZDV LQ- strumental in organizing the club’s first meeting. Hillock presented the request from the hospital medical staff, which was to apply this first year’s proceeds toward new medi- cal tools for the orthopedic department. Hillock said the group was enthusiastic about purchasing the state- of-the-art tools. The Men’s Guild 100 Club is now 79 strong and still taking new members.
