Steele July 6, 1943 – April 8, 2015 Edna Rae Fletcher Aug. 15, 1938 – April 10, 2015 LaValle Louise Alma Roberts, 87, was born to Benjamin and Alma (Rudger) Eckley on April 7, 1928 in Joseph. She had four sisters and three brothers. She went to school in her grade school years at the Prairie Creek school. She and her brother Ben rode an old horse to school each day. For high school, she lived with her Grandmother Eckley and went to school in Enterprise. She attended Enterprise High School, and stayed with Dr. BF Scharff and babysat their children, stayed with the Berlands and babysat with their children, and worked at the old hospital on the hill while going to school. She graduated with the Class of 1946. In 1947, she met Charles Everett Roberts after he came back from WWII. He was working on ranches in the area at the time. They were married on Feb. 15, 1947 and became parents of Robert Everett on Nov. 6, 1947. Chuck started working in the Mt. Emily mill and then for Boise Cascade, where he worked for 38 years. Daughter Barbara Ann was born on March 19, 1949 and Beverly Jo was born on Jan. 26, 1952. During the years the kids were in school, she worked in various jobs in Enterprise — working in Dietary and Housekeeping for Wallowa Memorial Hospital, as a cook at the Enterprise Hotel, clerk at the soda fountain at Bill’s Economy Drug Store, Assistant City Recorder, and as a owner/ waitress at the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant in Wallowa. She loved to write poetry and several of her poems were published. She won the Golden Poet award and traveled with her sister Georgie to Anaheim, Calif., for the awards ceremony and visited Disneyland. She was a Cub Scouts den mother, and belonged to many organizations through the years. She was in the Rebecca Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Poetry Association, and AARP. She was a Past Matron of Eastern Star, Past President of Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Daughters of the Nile. She attended the Enterprise Nazarene Church, which her grandparents helped organize in 1915. She and Chuck most enjoyed going on family outings to the forest with the kids and mushrooming, camping, hunting and JHWWLQJ¿UHZRRG She passed away on April 10, 2015, in Milton-Freewater. She was preceded in death by her parents — Ben and Alma Eckley/Baker, husband Chuck, brothers Ben, Frank and Matthew (baby) Eckley and sisters Maxine Daggett and Ann (baby) Eckley. She is survived by her sisters Mary Howerton and Georgie Waits, son Robert and wife Linda, daughter Barbara, daughter Beverly Wink and her husband Randy, four grandchildren and their VSRXVHV¿YHJUHDWJUDQGFKLOGUHQPDQ\QLHFHVDQGQHSKHZVDQG sisters-in-law Agnes Roberts and Gloria Eckley. Services will be held on Friday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise, with dinner to follow at the VFW Hall in Enterprise. Donations can be made to the cancer funds of either the Joseph’s Valley Chapter #50 Order of the Eastern Star or Eagle Cap Auxiliary 4307 VFW. John D. Steele, Athena, passed away April 8, 2015 at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash., at the age of 71 years after a long battle with health issues. A celebration of life will be Friday, April 17, 2015 at 3 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater. A potluck dinner will follow at the M-F Elks Lodge. John was born July 6, 1943 in La Grande, the son of John and Ruth Seward Steele. He grew up in Joseph. He graduated from Kinman Business University in bookkeeping. John had lived across the street from Judy E. Lampkins and they got married on June 21, 1969 in Enterprise. The couple had been married for 45 years. The family moved to Umatilla County in 1970 where he worked IRUWKH5XJJV5DQFKDQG¿QLVKHGKLVFDUHHUZLWKWKH%/'DYLV Ranches. John was a part of the Elks Lodge for 50 years and was a life member. He brought his father into the Elks and was so proud. He accomplished many things in the Elks over the years including head of the 10/20 fundraiser for Meadowood for 35 years, did the crab feed fundraiser for the lodge the last 20 years, and was responsible for the bus for the Veterans around the area. John had a huge heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter how he was feeling. He put others’ needs before his own. John was a caring man and will be missed. He is survived by his wife Judy Steele at the home, a son Jerrod and Saundra Steele of Athena, a daughter Jennifer and Kelly Runnels of Athena, a brother Ike Steele, a sister Christina :LOOLDPVDQG¿YHJUDQGFKLOGUHQ He was preceded in death by his parents. Donna Baugh Nov. 23, 1931 – March 31, 2015 Donna Macy Baugh of Wister, Okla., was born Nov. 23, 1931 in Wallowa to Ray Miller and Merle (Sanner) Miller and passed away March 31, 2015 in Ft. Smith, Ark., at the age of 83. She was survived by two daughters, Connie McDonald and husband Royce of Halfway, Cathy Spencer and husband Ray of Halfway; one son, Michael Dean Baugh and wife Paula of +RZH2NOD¿YHJUDQGFKLOGUHQ6KDQH(QJOLVKDQGZLIH0DU\ Patrick Baugh, Joy Andreas, Candi Prince and husband John, Amber Basket and husband Tim; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Savannah, Spencer, and D’Artagnon. Wilma Faye Goucher Feb. 23, 1930 – Feb. 16, 2015 Wilma Faye Goucher, of Enterprise, died Feb. 16, 2015, at Wallowa Valley Senior Living. A memorial service will be held May 2 at 11 a.m. at the Enterprise Christian Church. Friends are invited to join the family for a meal immediately following the Celebration of Wilma’s life. Wilma is the daughter of William R. and Audney E. Bates. She was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Caldwell, Idaho. She was the tenth child in a family of 18 children. Wilma attended the Huston Elementary School and Caldwell High School. Wilma married Loren William Raymond on March 21, 1977, in Caldwell. They lived and farmed in various places near Marsing, Idaho, and Caldwell. They were blessed with two children, Debra Faye, Oct. 15, 1950, and Dennis, born April 27, 1954. In 1965 the family moved to McCall, Idaho, where Wilma worked at Shore Lodge. In 1970 they moved to Enterprise, where Wilma worked at Boise Cascade and Bill’s Economy Drug store. For a short time Loren and Wilma leased a restaurant at Wallowa Lake. Then in 1972 they purchased the Rim Rock Restaurant at Flora Junction. Working together they transformed the building LQWRD¿UVWFODVV5HVWDXUDQWDQG5HVLGHQFH$WWKHUHVWDXUDQW:LOPD made wonderful pies, jams, and jellies, and waited tables. Upon retirement they moved back to Enterprise. After Loren passed away in 2004, Wilma continued to live in Enterprise until her marriage to Lyman Goucher, on Feb. 12, 2009, in Union County. Lyman and Wilma spent four wonderful years together at Lyman’s cattle ranch on the Imnaha River. After Lyman’s death Wilma moved to Grangeville, Idaho, for one year then returned to Enterprise. Wilma is survived by her daughter Debra Holbrook of Grangeville, Idaho, her son Dennis Raymond of Richland Hill, Texas; three step-children, son Craig Goucher, two daughters, Vicki Marks and Judy Goucher. Also she is survived by three sisters, Ina Jo Harman, Vivian Gordon, Gail Wood, and four brothers Edward, 5D\PRQG)UDQNDQG-HUU\%DWHV7KHUHDUH¿YHJUDQGFKLOGUHQWZR great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
