Wallowa County Chieftain News/Community wallowa.com February 4, 2015 A7 ‘Black and White’ exhibit opens Feb. 7 The Josephy Center plans to present a new exhibition, “Black and White,” opening Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. The show presents more than 20 artists and pho- tographers from around the Northwest. The works on view comprise a diverse array of drawings, paintings, sculptures, prints and photography that evoke a distinct vocabulary of mass, line, texture, form, and value through its innovative handling of black and white subject matter. Ten photographers plan to show their work: MC Reardon of Portland, who is a visual artist and poet, and La Grande High School student, Alicia Wight. Also featured are pencil and charcoal artists, lithograph artists, ce- ramicists and painters. The month also offers “Live and Up Front,” the Josephy Center’s artist lecture series with photographer Ken- drick Moholt on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. Mo- holt will give a slide presentation and demonstration to discuss his attraction to black and white photography. Brown Bag Lunch is adopting the “Black and White” theme with guest Stephen Kliewer, director of Wallowa Valley Center for Wellness on Feb. 10 at noon. The discussion revolves around racial history and the chang- HVLQGH¿QLWLRQVDQGXQGHUVWDQGLQJRI “black and white.” On Feb. 17, Mike Koloski demonstrates sketching in black and white. The Josephy Center will host one ¿OP RQ )HE DW SP ³)LQGLQJ 9LYLDQ 0DLHU´ D GRFXPHQWDU\ ¿OP about a mysterious nanny in New York City who took to the streets to secretly photograph more than 100,000 images never shared during her lifetime, but recently come to light. “Bridge at Catherine Creek” by Kirk Skovlin will be on display at the Josephy Center this month, along with drawings, paintings, photography, sculptures and more from other NW artists.
