basketball race Saturday night.
The Pioneers, with Bert, Lund
mark scoring 25 points, defeated
Linfield 71-60 at Portland. It was

night.
The win was the fifth in six
games for Lewis and Clark. Col
lege of Idaho, which defeated
Northwest Nazarene 65-33 at Cald
well. Idaho, in a nenconference

The Beavers of Slats Gill, who
have won 13 of 14 starts and have
12 straight wins, take on the Se
attle Chieftains.
It will be the first meeting be
tween Oregon State and the Chief
tains. The Beavers hold victories
over every other major Northwest
hoop school Washington, Oregon,
Washington State, Idaho, Gonzaga
and Portland.
Oregon State disposed of Idaho
71-68 for its 13th win of the sea
son at Moscow, Idaho. Saturday
night to complete a two-game
weekend series sweep. With two
earlier wins over Washington
State at Pullman it marks the
first time ever that Oregon State
has swept four games in the In
land Empire.
The Beavers went ahead with
two minutes gone in the second
half, lost the lead and then took
command for the final 13 minutes.

as the Ducks completed a two
game sweep.
The two Oregon wins came aft
er the Ducks had dropped five
contests in a row. The victories
gave them a 6-8 record.
The Ducks play Seattle Friday
night and meet Portland Saturday
night here.
Warren's 29-point effort lipped
his Uu'ee-year varsity total at
Oregon to 1.008 points. The Ore
gon three-year mark is held by
Charlie Franklin at 1,092 points
and the all-time mark is 1.186 set
by Dick Wilkins in four seasons.
Warren was ejected from the
contest with 2:21 remaining for
fighting with Washington State
guard Terry Ball. Ball paced the
Cougars with 24 pouits.
Oregon broke the game open
late in the second half.
Bill Simmons scored 16 and
sophomore Jerry Anderson tallied
15 for Oregon.

The willowy Olympic triple gold

Although this normally is a dull
period in the college basketball
season, with most of the kids
cramming for mid year exams,
there's a dandy "battle of the
giants" on tap Monday night at
Columbus. Ohio.
It will match All-America Jerry
Lucas of top-ranked Ohio Slate
against All-America Terry Dis
chinger of Purdue. The Buckeyes
are the nation's only unbeaten
team with a 13-0 record but they
expect a tough battle against
Purdue, which has lost three of
13 games.
This will be the first of a
crucial home-and-home series be
tween the Big Ten Conference
rivals .in the next week. . They
tangle again at Lafayette, Ind.,
next Monday night.
Lucas, who stands 68 and
weighs 225 pounds, and Disching
er, a 6-7 190-pounder, have only
met twice previously during their
varsity careers. And both times
Dischinger outscored his Buckeye
rival, but Ohio State won both
games.
Lucas warmed iip for his re
venge assignment against Dis
chinger with a 32-poinl perform
ance that sparked the Buckeyes
to a 90-76 victory over Minnesota
Saturday night at Minneapolis. It
rasied Jerry's season average to
22.6 points a game. Dischinger,
the Big Ten scoring champion for
the past two seasons, is currently
averaging 26. B for Purdue, which
was idle Saturday.
