Special to The Bulletin I
PRINEVILLE The possibility!
that Senator Hubert Humphrey,

in the nether regions was proposed j
here Wednesday night wheji State!
Senator John Merrifield spoke to
one of the largest Republican
gatherings to assembly here in re
cejit months.
Party members from all parts
of Crook county met to hear a
rousing address and to learn of
new methods being used by the
G.O.P. in precinct and county
work. Three members of the state
central office were present, Clyde
Brummel, Paul Johnson and Don
Soderling.
Senator Merrifield made, his
comment on Senator Humphrey in
answer to the latter's charge.
made here last Saturday night,
"that farmers are as scarce in the
government's agriculture depart
ment as angels in hell." Senator
Merrifield said he assumed that
Humphrey was familiar with the
terrain or he would not have made
such a statement.
, In serious but pnssionate. sum
mary, Senator Merrifield 1 isted
nine objectives of the Republican
party and t urged Crook county
members to rally around the goals
for 1956 elections. He stressed the
need for active percinct workers
throughout the state and offered
key points for action.
For farmers of this area, he
said that the long-term outlook
was excellent under the policies
sot up by the present government's
farm policies, and he blasted Sen
ator Humphrey for his stand for
100 per cent price support.
The speaker told of numerous
goals, "set up by the Republicans,
which had been achieved since the
last presidential elections, particu
larly In progress "fo ttie good
of the people of the nation." in
education, health, tax structure,
highways and expanded farmers'
markets.
On the state level, Senator Mer
rifield stated that Oregon is now
