MADRAS The Madras Union
high school student newspaper, the
White Buffalo, a consistent winner
of awards, continued the trend
with two high ratines given for
outstanding work by the paper
start during the second semester
of last school year.
The Buffalo received nrst class
honor rating- for the fourth con
secutive time from the National
Scholastic Press association. The
paper w.as judged on .make-up, con
tent, coverage, editoriais, photos-'
raphy, sports coverage, and typog
raphy. The latter two were rated
"excellent."
A note attached to the rating
stated that the expert guidance of
E, H. Hiilis, 'journalism instructor,
and conscientious work of the staff
is a real credit to such a small
school as Madras high.
From the Quill and Scroll Criti
cal Service, the White Buffalo re
ceived the "A" award or Interna
tional" Honor rating.
The paper was judged on infor
mation offered, influence on read
ers, entertainment offered, and
use of the paper as a business en
terprise. A comment accompanying the
rating was, "The While Buffalo is
unique in scholastic journalism.
: You are providing outstanding
service to school and community."

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Goodwell are
visiting parents here in Bend while
on a nme-day leave. He is sta
tioned at the Alameda Calif., ha
val Air Base. Parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Glenn Holland and Mr, and
Mrs. Jack Howe.
Skyline Squares will not hold a
potiuek dinner in October, officers
announced today. The regular
dances will be held at the Bendo-
nian Studio Wednesday evenings
as usual, however, starting at 8:30.

The accident occurred when Miss
Duhig failed lo negotiate a turn,
and the 1952 Oidsmohife coach she
was driving overturned in loose
gravel. Two other teen-age girts
were injured.
Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
