Benson Hit By Farmers DES MOINES, Iowa, (UP) Non-partisan protest meetings were snowballing across Iowa to day to demand that Agriculture Secretary Ezra Taft Benson resign, Four meetings of Iowa farmers have been held, and three more were scheduled in the state for the next two weeks. Both Republicans and Demo crats attended a meeting at Corn ing, Iowa Thursday, where moiv than -100 farmers from five count ijs gat here and applauded demands that Benson resign. Meetings Non -Partisan Jay Loghry, a feed salesman, and Duanc Orton, a farmer, spon sored the Corning meeting and said they hoped that the protest movement would spread to all parts of Iowa and then across the nation. Loghry said he was a registered Democrat but was not active i'i party politics. He said that "every effort" would be made to keep the meetings non-partisan. Both Loghry and Orton called for Benson's resignation. And Logh- rv suggested that "everyone here write a letcr to Benson and ask him to resign." Albert J. Loveland, former Dem ocratic unsecrctary of agricul ture, said the meetings were J forerunner of a Democratic elec tion'victory in 1956. Democratic Victory Scrn Loveland, a memlier of a Demc cratic farm advisory commi'lc that will meet In Chicago Monday, said at his Janesville. Iowa, home that "these meetings are evidence that the Republicans have failed once again to solve farm income problems." And he believed, he said, that the farmers will "help put a Democratic administration hack in office." Orton told the gathering that farmers make up 13.4 per cent of the nation's population, but get o'lly 5 1-2 per cent of the income. "We even feed our hogs more equitably tha nthat," he said. Nixon u !)cen removed from exhibition b officials of the San Francisco Art Festival. The cartoon, captioned "Dick Mc- Smear," was drawn by Victor Arnautoff, an art instructor at Stanford University. It pictured the vice president wearing a blacl: mask, holding a pumpkin in one hand and a red-daubed paint briiih in the other. There were immediate ortisti rumbles about "censorship" and freedom of expression," but J.D Zellerback, president of the Art Commission, said he had the car toon removed on the protests of private citizens. Zellerbach said that "while I Jc dend the right of artists to un inhibited self-expression," he fell that no public official of any party should "be the subject of a carica ture displayed at an art exhibit finnnced by all the people."
