Crane Prairie is probably the hottest spot right now. Kokanee, bluebacks, are hitting spinning lures theiv. The little salmon seem to be concentrated in the Culliis creek channel in Crane Prairie. The fish are running 12 to 14 inches and limits are no hard to lake. Mrs. Ken Gales- who reported this, thought trolled spin hers and worms ought lo work also. Originally the kokanee plan tot! in Little Cultus and have moved from there to the reser voir. In Big Cut us, where there is apparently less natural food, the kokanee are smaller. BEND Plans Made By Skyliners Plans (or the building and loca tion of a new warming hut and cafeteria were Die topics discussed at the Skyuners Board meeting Monday. The old hut will be a'. tached to the nrw one and wiil serve as a kitchen. The new hut will be moved from the present location 350 feet nearer the sum mit. The busy Skyliners are also go ing to move the present tow hut up to the base of the hill, approx imately 100 yards, which will give more height to the present tow. They will also run the tow to th'.1 warming hut area. Skyliner officials felt that thp convenience of this new setup willat WhUe City stadium last night. be a great improvement ovpr last season. They are also working on toboggan slide and will remodel the small ski jump. Prices for the use of the, tow wro set. Individual season tieke's will sell for $15 and 10 hours work Family tickets will go for $35 and 10 hours work. Daily rates ar.- $1.25. The tow will be in operation five days a week this year, running daily except Monday and Tuesday, compared to only weekends iast winter. It will be possible to oper ate week days because of plans to light the hill which will allow night skiing. Sunday, Sept. 25, has been des ignated as Bend Jaycee day the hill. The group will go out in full force to handle their share of the work. Any other civic group or organization wishing to go out in a body is asked to register with the City Recreation department be ginning Thursday morning. & Fishing Jim Selkin of Bend used wet flies to take a good catch out of Snow creek last week. Wickiup is lower, yet but still altracting large numbers of fish ermen. Yesterday fishermen were having the best luck on worms. Grasshoppers and worms ought to he good in the river immediately below Wickiup, too. Of interest to those who do not have a boat is that Robideaux has just recently put rentnl boats on Wickiup. Single eggs still give good re sults in East lake. Leonard and Wanda Huston fished there iast weekend. While Wanda took a limit, Leonard didn't because "he vouldrj't lish right." says Wanda, Dove .Moving Eros'y niiihts are putting the dwves on Ihe move and there should be some good shooting clos. to Bend now. The little gray speed sters have been seen in increasing numbers southeast of Bend off ho Bump highway. A local hunter whose name won't be (old came into Evans Sporting goods store recently and bought a box ot shells to go ciov hunting. "I won't even need whole box to shoot ten of these little bittv birds," he said. He came back later and reported that with 25 shells he had managed to break the wing of just one of the "little bitty" gray birds. Oaks to Move To Vancouver i ! VANCOUVKR, B. VaJdes slashed Cockell 's left eye brow so badly that the stocky British champion was forced to retire at the end of the third round of their scheduled 10-round bout Marciano knocked out Cockell the ninth round of their title bout, May 36. Valdes floored Cockell for an eight-count in the third round. Marciano floored the plucky Brit on three times. A swarm of Valdes' fans sounded the keynote of the victory celebra- tion lor the 30-year-old, 207-pound Cuban as they thronged around his corner, waving their national hag and shouting over and over "ivlarciano, Marciano." Impressive Comeback It was an impressive comeback for Valdes, wno had tumbled out o title contention when lie lo'it successive bouts to Arcnie Moore and Bob Satlerfield this year. And it even improved on a pre fignt prediction by Bobby Gleason, V aides' manager, that JNino would stop Cockell sometime between tne filtn and ninth rounds "to go one belter than Marciano." Valdes .first hull the 21G-pound CocKeii in tne second round wnen he naned him wiln a hard right uppercut. On Offensiye The Cuban went rtgiit on the offensive to open tne nurd round as tne 2&-year-oid CocKeii Uicd to parry his lead. Suddenly, Cock-; en switched to tne auacK witn a series ot punches but Valdes put just as quicK a linisn to Uiat Hurry Dy landing a smashing ngnt to tne jaw that dropped Cockch lor an eight-count; 1 Cockell, blood streaming from his lett eyebrow, tried to stage the same sort ol game rally he dis-, played against Marciano and land ed several nard puncnes to the body. But Valdes scored with two right uppcrcuts and a left hoe's that forced Cockell to clinch. " The bell rang and Cockell s sec onds called the referee over and announced Inai CocKeii couid not continue.
