convenient rotisseries, broilers or
fryers as a wedding gift. Other
wise, you'll have to get one to
enjoy chicken the easy way.
Barbecued chicken (use the
smaller ones now on the market)
belongs in plans for enjoying the
long Memorial Day weekend just
ahead of us. So let's examine a
. lew barbecue sauce recipes no

. Barbecue Sauce Piquant
' (Yield: Approximately 1 cup, or
enough for two 2 'j -pound
broiler-fryers)

. tional; 2 teaspoons flour, ft tea
spoon Tabasco, 1-3 cup water, 3
tablespjons lime or lemon juice,
1 tablespoon sugar, teaspoon
salt, teaspoon each thyme, rose
mary and marjoram, ,a teaspoon
ipaprika.
Melt butter or margarine; add
garlic and cook over low heat 3
. minutes. Stir in flour. Combine
Tabasco, . water and lime juice;
add to butter or margarine mix
ture. Add remaining ingredients.

Melt butter or margarine.
While this is melting, combine re
maining ingredients; stir into
melted butter or margarine. Use
for broiled tomatoes and whole
new potatoes.

soft rolls, butter, scallions and
radishes, old-fashioned strawberry

One hundred and four Jefferson
county first and second graders re-j
ceived the first polio immuniza-!
tion shot in Madras Tuesday. j
The figure is lower than expect
ed because schools in Jefferson
county have , recessed since last
Friday, the tri-county health de
partment explained. None of the
Warm Springs boarding school
children turned up, if pointed out.
The department will continue its
program in Prineville for the
Crook county children Wednesday.
Dr. James H. Stewart, tri-county
health officer, said that the per
centage will probably be higher
in both Redmond and Bend, as the :
schools in the two cities have not
yet closed for summer vacation. 1
The vaccination program will
cover Redmond today and !
Bend on Friday and the following:
Tuesday. Schedules for the sec
ond shots have not been made but
the department indicates that io-
low-up shots will be administered
about a month from now. s

are not able to turn up on sched
