Here and There Mrs. E. L. Knirfit of Tirana. a former resident of Bend, is here visiting with her daughter, Mrs. M. L. Montgomery. Mr?. Knight will be joined by her husband over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bettel youn. Sisters, are parents of a Owens Services Held on Monday Military services for Sgt. Rich ard Owens, a casualty of the Ko rean conflict, were held Monday afternoon in Greenwood cemetery. The serviceman was killed Nov. 30, 1950, at the age of 21. He is survived by his father, Elmer B. Owens of Klamath I"alls, a sister, Lorenda Owens, Los Angeles, and three brothers: Lester, Lancaster, Calif.; James, Yakima, and But ton, Madras. Francis Gates was in charge of the VFW service, assisted by Ray Cooper and V. J. Baer. Company I of the National Guard provided a firing squad and pallbearers. I Pallbearers were Ralph Graham, Glenn Carter, Kieth Ramsay, I Frank Lehlo, Robert Hawthorne and Linus Dahlahein. Sgt. Owens was a former resi dent of Bend. Driver Fined On Liquor Count Special to The Bulletin REDMOND Anita M. Decker. Sprague River, was fined $204.50 in justice court last week for driv ing while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. Judge Donald Ellis suspended $100 of the fine. Ramona Parrish, also of Sprague River, was fined $35 for public drunkenness, and is being held in county jail in lieu of fine pay ment. Dalson D. Topper, Beatty, is also in jail in lieu of $25 fin payment on the same charge, an" Edison Duffy. Beatty, paid a $'?"i fine for similar citation. Rollie Wegner, Jr., Portland paid $19.50 for overload. Laylon and Miss Gayle Eimen of Bend drove to Twin Falls, Ida., this past weekend,-, to meet John Laylon. U.S. Air Force, son of the local couple. While in Idaho, the group visaed Sun Valley ski resort. John had arrived by plane from Lowry Field near Denver, where he is studying electronics. He and a buddy went on to Denver by car, and Mr. and Mrs. Laylon and Miss Ennen returned to Bend by bus. Pedestrian Dies Crossing Street PORTLAND (UP) A man run ning across Portland's busy Har bor Drive during the morning rush hour was fatally injured at 7:40 a.m. today when he was struck by a car near the Main street intersection. It was Portland's 17th traffic death of 1955. Police tentatively identified the victim as George Stratt or Stratos, Portland. They believed he was about 40. The accident stalled traffic for blocks along Harbor Drive and a four-car collision at the same time on the east side approach to Haw thorne bridge caused another traf fic jam directly across the river. Driver of the car which struck Statt was Jess Lee Dorsch, 59, Portland. Three witnesses said Dorsch was driving north when the pedestrian darted from the east curb. The body was hurled 25 feet. Those attaining Lion Rank were Paul Scvy, Mike Slenkamp, Dale Hoi Its, and Fred Whitmore and re ceiving Lion arrow awards were Mike Stenkamp, Dale Hollis, Paul Sevy and John Knoll. Webelos Rank, which is the highest advancement in the Cub Scouting program was achieved bv Paul Graham, Mike Stenkamp. Billy Smith, Fred Whitmore and Paul Sevy. Service stars were giv en seven Cubs for one, two and three years service in the scouting program. . I College Contract Gets Board OK School board members last night authorized Chairman Glenn H. Gregg and Mrs. Irene Cothrell, clerk, to sign a contract with tho state board of higher education governing operations of Central Oregon college for 1955-56. Only change in the provisions of the contract are in tuition charges raised from $55 a quarter to $G5 in conformity with increases going into effect in campus schools un der state board administration.
