But he is also going to have a special education fit for a king. The plans for education of Prince Charles announced by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh recent ly represent a compromise. They had wanted their son to have experience outside the palace gates "just like any other boy." This would mean going to classes with boys his own age. But as a future monarch he is not just like any other boy. He requires schooling in subjects not generally taught such as consti tutional history, royal etiquette and responsibility. The compromise means Charles will attend certain classes at a famous boys school, joining in sports and games and studying arithmetic and literature and other standard courses.- Private History Lessons Then at home he will have some private tutoring. A master from Eton College will give him inten sive instruction in history and French. A professional musician will give him music lessons. He has shown a flair for music. By combining classroom work and special tutoring, Queen Eliza beth hopes her son can get his royal training and still experieni-C! life in the world outside. The prince's governess Miss Kntherine Peebles will remain in charge of his general welfare. She will see to it that he does his homework, for instance. She will also escort Prinri Charles on small parties with some of his friends to interesting spots around l,ondon. This is n royal custom. When the Queen and Princess Margaret were young, heir grandmother used to take Ihem on an excursion once a week during the summer. Visit MuMum Thry visited museums and art galleries and went to the Tower of I.ondon and the mint. This is the kind of thing Queen Elizabeth plans for Prince Charles. This summer Is likely to him exploring the capital with all his usual eagerness and curio sity. Sourees close to the court say this phase of the prince's educa tion will last until he is 10 years old. lie will rolebrate his seventh birthday next November. When he is in. the Queen and the Duke must decide on the next stage. Ordinarily at this age, i British boy of high rank . would go to boar-ding school. But no heir to the throne lias ever done this.
