(Bend Bulletin Photo) Mid-spring finds Bend experiencing a spurt of building activ ity unprecedented in a number of years. This activity ranges from commercial construction to many new homes, with others in the offing. Pictured on this page are few of the commercial buildings now under construction. They represent only a small part of the activity that marks the spring days. the near future, some construction will be launched here that will overshadow the work now under way. This will include the erection of the $1,000,000 senior high school, in southwest Bend. The sudden upturn in construction is not localized in Bend. Other Central Oregon towns, Prineville, Redmond and Madras, re port similar activity. New residences under construction here now would more than fill this page with pictures, and in addition others are planned for the near future. " ' , 1 ' , f ' - . , ' " FITZPATRICK BUILDING TAKES SHAPE Rapidly taking shape on South Third street in Bend, just north of the Dekalb corner, is the Fitzpatrick Lincoln-Mercury building as it appeared this past week end. This building faces U. S. Highway 97, part of which is visible in the foreground. The Lincoln - Mercury building is one of the many business structures being built here this spring as construction activity takes a sudden upturn. Smith. The building, of pumice block construction, will serve for equipment u, in connection with PT & T expansion in Bend that will include a new dial system. ' ,) ' , yi iy NEW STRUCTURE REPLACES OLD Construction work under way in downtown Bend includes the new home of the D and D Club, en Bond street, south wall of which is pictured here. The modern club building replaces one of the city's oldest wooden structures, erected in pre-railroad days. The new building is being erected by John Daly, and i rapidly taking final shape as mid spring comet to the area. Pumice blocks are being used.
