The baby weighed 8 pounds, one ounce, and has been named Bruce Ed mund. Mrs. Halverson was for merly Lucy Slate of Bend. Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Halverson of Prineville are the paternal grand parents, and A. H. Slate of Prine ville is the maternal grandfather. Meivin W. Schult, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schult of Red mond, is one of 18 outstanding Oregon State college juniors in army, air force and naval ROTC units invited to join Scabbard and Blade, national advonced mili tary honor society. The initiation banquet will be April 19. Schult graduated from Redmond High school in 1951. Ho is majoring in business administration at OSC. Defoe Services Due on Monday Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Niswonger-Winslow chapel for Ross Eu gene DeKoe, 22, who died April 12 in Los Angeles, as the result of an automobile accident. Jackson will speak at mis sionary services Sunday at the Alliance Church, Missionary Sets Appearance Here Fiiv.il speaker in the missionary conference held at the Alliance church this week is Rev. R. M. Jackson, missionary to the Repub lic of Viet Nam, who will speak Sunday at the 11 a.m. service. He will close the conference by show ing colored slides at the Sunday evening service, starting at 7:30. Rev. Jackson has spent most of his 36 years as a missionary in Viet Nam, and its northern metro polis of Hanoi, so prominent in the news of Communism's Asiat ic advance, has been his recent residence. He previously had head quarter in the capital city of Saigon, the military ccn.er of Nam Dinh and the northern seaport of Haiphong. At Hanoi he was un able to obtain a conventional res idence, and was obliged to occupy the former printing plant. There he devoted himself to the distri bution of tracts and the sale of Christian books as well as check ing the translation of Dr. Simp sons book on Joshua into Viet Namese. Rev. Foley, chairman. Win ners were in class 1, for fourth, fifth and sixth grades, nnd class II, for seventh, eighth and ninth grades. Only two schools were represented in the competition. Prices of $5. S3 and SI were given in each class. In class I winners were Karen Gettmann, first; Bonnie Sumpler, second, and Skipper Martindale. third. Class II winners, were Howard Snyder first; Carol Purkey, second, and Julie Johnson, third. First place 'winners in each class will be en tered In the slate contest. Judging was 50 per cent for appeal, 25 per cent for originality, 15 per cent (or artistic ability and 10 per cent for neatness. Former Resident Of Bend Dies James A. Chamberlin, who was in the electrical contracting bus iness in Bend for many years, died Friday morning in Eugene. He had suffered a stroke last sum mer, and death was from a heart attack. He was in his early 60s Survivine are his wife, Evelyn, who commutes from Eugene and teaches at Yoncalla; a daughter. Mrs. Edward P. Lines, Eugene and two Grandchildren, Susan ana James Lilies. Funeral sen-ices will be held Monday at 1 p.m., in Eugene. Mr. Chamberlin belonged to the Masonic lodge and Order of East ern Star ut Bend. During the years he was in business in Bend, he also farmed on Deschutes river nronertv which he owned at Turn alo. The ranch is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Swearin-cell. The Chambcrlms sola tneir iu malo property and moved to Eu gene about five years ago. Benson Rites Held on Friday Funeral services for Jere Solo mon Benson, 86, were held Friday morning at the Niswonger-Winslow chapel With Rev. Jack MacLeod officiating. Mr. Benson was a native of Long Prairie, Minn., and had lived in Bend 34 years. He died Wednesday at Sunset Home. There are no surviving relatives. Charles Memorial hospital, follow ing an illness ot about a month. Her father is pastor of the Four square Gospel church in Bend. The little girl, born in Santa Monica, Calif., is survived by her parents, and one brother, Jeffrey, Bend. Rev. Bert Crouch of Cul ver City. Calif., is the maternal grandfather, and Mrs. Dora Is aacs, Visalia. Calif., is the pater nal grandmother. An aunt. Mar lone Crouch, lives in Culver City. So-iid lo Tim Bulletin PRINEVILLE After an ad vance celebration several days ;o, Mr. and Mrs. George Milli orn of l.H East Fifth Street ob served their 52nd wedding anni vcrsary today by starting orr a trip to San Francisco to visit Mr and Mrs. C. E. Montgomery and family. Mrs. Montgomery is their granddaughter. The Milliorns have lived in Prineville since 1919. Mr., and Mrs. Milliorn were married at Roberts, a once-flour ishing community on Alkali Flat southeast of Prineville, by Frank Smith, a justice of peace, who was ulso a nearby rancher. The Millorns were the parents of three children. Maude died in 1933. Frank now lives in Burns and Isom is a resident of Prineville. George Milliorn was brought to Central Oregon by his parents in 1880. His wile, the former Not be Roberts, came here with her. parents in 1887. After their marriage in 1903, the couple lived on a ranch in the Bear Creek country until their move to Prineville. Milliorn wont into the concrete contracting bus iness and installed many of Prine- ville's sidewalks, as the name Mil liorn on street corners testifies. He retired from active work two years ago at the age of 78. A feature - length sound-color film, "I Beheld His Glory," will be shown at Die Methodist church Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The picture tells the story of Jesus' last week on earth, including the resurrection. Talk Describes European Trip i Special to The Bulletin REDMOND Ivan Stewart, past i district governor of Rotary district 1 154, of Salem, gave an illustrated talk on a European trip taken in lirjl following the International Ro tary convention in France last May. Mrs. Stewart showed the slides on England, France, Scot land, Switzerland, Germany and Italy while Stewart did the nat rating. There will be no regular meet ing Thursday at noon. Rotarians and their wives will Instead meet I-nday night at John Tuck cafe teria with members of other serv ice clubs and their wives at the Kiwanis-sponsored dinner. There will, however, be a round table Thursday noon in Redmond hotel for the convenience of visitors and those wishing to make up. Rotarians and their wives plan to leave by chartered bus Wed nesday, April 27 for Klamath Falls to attend one of the nine Golden Anniversary banquets being held that night throughout the district Klamath Falls will host Bend, Redmond, and Lakeview. A radio program originating in Portland or Eugene will be broadcast that evening with all me district clubs tuned in while banquets are in pro gress. The Klamath Falls meeting will take the place of regular Thurs day noon meeting for Redmond Rotarians that week, with a round table again scheduled for that day, April 28. News of Death Received Here Word has been received here ot the recent death at St. Petersburg, Vo..; of Rev. J. M. B. GUI, Epis copal rector who was well known in Central Oregon. Rev. Gill was former pastor of St. Luke's Episcopal church In Lakeview. While In Lake county he organized and dedicated the Church of Our Savior at Summer Lake. Rev.
