The memorial race was the only: part of the Skyliners club that didn't fall apart completely during the time when the lack of skiing enthusiasm caused the club to very nearly disband. Jere Gillis was an active mem ber of the club and -was one of! the men that helped to put the Skyliner's name on the skiing map. Coach Gale Davis didn't think it was funny .when he climbed on the bus that was to carry him and h's baseball squad to Madras to meet the strong Buffalo nine and found only ten men prepared to make the journey. The rest of the team was either ill or at the JV game that was being played at the local field. Because of the lack of depth in the Bruin line-up several of the boys found themselves in positions that were completely "Greek" to them. Regular catcher, Earl Cork ett, was put out to pasture in right field while fielders, Jim Crowell and Gary Gentry were pulled in for infield assignments. Crowell was forced to the mound, a position that he had no hopes of playing and hopes that he will never play It again, where he held the hosts to just two hits in five innings. Roland Coleman took to the field at third base in stead of his usual first position. In spite of the disorganization of the team the Bruins committed only one error throughout the afternoon. The Bruins should be at full strength lor their second district doubleheader ot the season when they go against the Sweet Home nine Saturday at Sweet Home. In the previous district games the Bears went down to defeat twice at the hands of the Corvallis Spar tans. The Bruin track squad with one meet, and one defeat on the sea son's record will leave early Sat urday morning to make the jour ney to the Hayward Relays to be held at Eugene this weekend. The relays are divided Into forr districts: Metropolitan, Class A. Class B, and Class C depending upon the size of the school.
