Technical Fields Needing Talent
CHAMPAIGN, 111. (UP)
L'nivcrsily or Illinois placement of
ficers have sinne valuable advice
for 1955 hiKh sclm-il i-'iaduates.
If you want to cash in on to
day's slinHage of technically
trained personnel, sjiond the next
four years in college.
"Assumiiis tho pnsent economic
situation conlinues, the demand
for scienlilieally trained persons
will continue as far as we can see
ahead."
That's the way the university's
assistant dean of the college of en
gineering. Prof. Wendell E. Mill
er, summed up the situation.
He said that last year there was
a shortage of 20.000 engineers in
tho nation. The supply will run be
hind demand at least until 10,
he added.
Bulging school enrollments make
the outlook for teaching jobs bright
for years ahead, said Prof. J. L.
Trump, who heads teacher place
ment at the U. of I.
He pointed out tho most critical
shortage now is for elementary
grade teachers. The "baby boom"
that followed World War II is now
reaching grade school.
"Four years from njw we'll
have teacher shortages in almost
every teaching field," Trump said.
Demand for college - trained per
sonnel also will continue to rise in
many olher fields, particularly in
chemistry and chemical engineer
ing, according to Prof. Leonard
K. Miller.
Button-Badge
Man is Ready
PITTSBURGH (UP) A
Pittsburgh button and badge-maker,
who claims he coined the "I
Like Ike" slogan for the 1952 pres
idential election, says he is all et
to go again if President Eisen
hower decides to run in 1956.
Arthur Garfield Trimble has pi
lot models for next year that read,
"I Still Like Ike."
Trimble was one of those who
were boasting Mr. Eisenhower be
fore he had indicated willingness
to enter the 1952 race, and he was
ready with his buttons and badges
when the time came.
