And furniture today fills those needs. Furniture has a wealth of flexibility. It goes from room to room, and from one function to another. It grows with the family, and affords a great wealth of va riety in the plan of the home. Furniture today does many things. Chests transform to serv ers or desks. Desks may also serve as vanities, if they possess a flip-top center lid, or they may serve as consoles. Consoles may transform to mobile serving carts or large sized dining table's. A buffel or credenza may be a con-: sole or a large-sized dining table. Serving carts rrwy be bookcases or room-dividers. Room - dividers and matching bases are accessible from both sides and serve two areas of the home at the same time-one for decorative purposes and the other for function. ; kjfn 1 1 n n Ratiirn r'UR"'i IWIUIII Making a welcome return for spring is the suit with two pairs of pants with a difference. These suits, called "convertibles" or "threesomes." have the conven tional coat and one pair of match ing trousers. The second pair comes in another color and usual ly in a different weave. This combination allows the coat and matching trousers to be worn as a business suit. The coat and odd trousers supply the owner with a tasteful outfit for leisure wear. The coat may also be worn with walking shorts or with the gray flannel trousers many prefer with sDort coats. 937 Wall i I i 5 BULLETIN Thursday, March 24, 1955 Designs among new gloves show both imaginative styling and clas sic practicality. The . extreme shortie glove, so youthfully gay in feeling, continues to hold first place because of its versatility. Leather Glove Industries report a trend to high color, However, new finesse in trim ming and detail, provides much fashion excitement. Shells, but tons, colored beads, self-embroid ery are seen more often and-are more . beautifully handled this spring. Shorties in glace kid. pigskin drtr cape leathers, or cotton fabric are trimmed with dressmaker piping in self or contrast colors. Contrast colored leather piping on leather gloves is a charming new touch. Another group features, decorative motifs in tiny leather-covered but- (ons at the side or a single line of rice pearls sewn at the hem. The untrimmed shortie comes in gaily printed fabrics ail manner of cottons and synthetics or in such casual leathers as cape or pigskin. A single pearl-button clos ing or an elasticized wrist affords smooth, easy fit. Crowing in importance is the six-button length slip - on glove, most fashion - right in a supple leather. Frequently gathered and elasticized at the wrist, it pro duces a chic flared effect and goes wonderfully over the new tight tapered sleeve. A new series of all-over perfor ated leather gloves appears in both shortie and six-button length styles. They are available in all colors and, most in teresting of all, the perforations are arranged in a wide variety of distinctive designs. LEATHER HIES IN THE NEWS There are three important new leather color categories: brilliant colors, such as cornflower blue, mauve and coral: muted pastels, such as'cameo pink, platinum and palest yellow; and deep tones taken directly from the paintings of the Old Masters. Attractive styling in children's furniture is seen in Modern Provincial and Tradition al groupings. New children's furni ture is a good investment. It has been designed to grow with the child. It fits both style and func tional needs. Contemporary style innovations start with infant's furniture, and are mtleh in evidence on up to the teen-age groupings. Table and chair sets come in Modern metal wire designs, and are especially popular for practi cal reasons. There is little, if any, upkeep to them. Lazy susans are another new juvenile fashion note. Rocking chairs.musical and other wise, are a great favorite, and they are well styled. For the very, very young, some of the bedroom groupings feature plastic siding on the beds, and a plastic surface on bed rail for the teethers. Fold-away chairs, or baby ten ders, are tremendously practical. The baby tender features plastic casters for easy mobility, and ad justs to various heights to give the infant a better perspective of the adult world. For the child, who is able to be seated without toppling but re quires more height, a dining chair has just been designed. It matches adult ctairs, but has an adjustable seat, which eliminates the need for the unsteady support of phone books. Bunk beds and captains beds are highlights for the child just a little older. The idea appeals to both children and Mothers alike. Bunk beds give the service of two beds, but only take up the floor space of one bed. Side guard rails on the upper bunk insure safety against tumbling out. The very Inst word in children's furnishings, as in all other furni ture this season, is color. You will see all the pastel colors of the rainbow used with the dramatic touch. .
