Mrs. Harris Insurance Firm Seeks Damages Complaint that snow piled along the curb by a street department crew, melted and flooded the base ment of the home of Duncan Mc Kay is subject of a suit for more than $7,000 damages brought in federal court by two insurance companies. . The suit was brought by Ben Franklin insurance company, with whom McKay has a policy, against the Oregon Auto Insurance com pany, with whom the city is in sured. Both companies deny lia bility for the damage alleged done to McKay's home, 961 Riverside. Melting snows reportedly seeped into the house during a heavy win ter storm in January 1954. Reporting on the suit to the city commission Wednesday, City At torney Harry A. English said the city will in no way be involved in defending the ease in federal court in Portland. Special to The Bulletin MADRAS A contract for $125,- 945.90 has been awarded to E. C. Hall and company, Portland, for construction of Simnasho area roads, it has been reported from the Warm Springs Indian Reserva tion agency office. Heavy equipment has been mov ed to the site, located about 15 miles north of the agency on the Hot Springs-Simnasho road, and sub-contracts are currently being let, according to T. M. Sanders, administrative officer. Under terms of the contract, which was approved by the Bu reau of Public Roads and the De partment of Indian Affairs, work will be completed within a max imum of six months. The contract covers three separ ate items. The first is for 2.360 miles of new road, and includes grading, drainage, base, and top surfacing. The second is for 9.613 miles of crushed rock base surfacing. The third calls for 13.812 miles of crushed rock top surfacting on Simnasho school roads. Some of the top and base surfacing work comes within the extremities of the third item.
