Cowboys in Pair
Special to The Bulletin
MADRAS Both Madias Union
high school and Culver high school
hoop squads will be at home for
one contest this weekend, and
both will play one away.
Madras has a pair of non-counters
with Princville'and the. White
Buffaloes will be pointing to snap
a four-game losing streak. Friday,
they host the Coxboys and Satur
day night travel to the Crook
county gymnasium for another go.
The Buffs have won four and
lost eight. Of these, the locals have
lost all league contests played, and
are currently sitting in the cellar
'of the Central Oregon league with
an 0-4 record.
Lakeview is in first with three
wins and no defeats; Redmond,
the traditional bridesmaid team, is
second with a 2 0 record; Burns is
third with two victories and one
loss; Bend holds fourth spot with
one and one and Prineville is fifth
with one win and three losses.
The Culver Bulldogs will host
Dufur Friday, and journey to
Maupin Saturday night. Both
games are league counters, and
the Bulldogs will be attempting to
tietter their two-wins, one-loss
league record, which has them!
currently in third place.
Dufur has failed in league games
with Mora and Mosier but is sup
posed to be stronger than last year
with an all-lelterman starling line
up. Maupin is expected to make
it tough for Coach Buck Monroe's
hoop men. Ron Poulson, six-foot,
seven-inch center, is expected to I
see action, and Monroe believes j
that Maupin is the team in the!
league to beat. '

Running Railway
Has Its Rewards
CASSVILLE, Mo. (UP) -There
was no dividend for stock
holders, but the operators of tiie
Cassvillc & Exeter Railroad saiiP
they didn't mind.
' There's something about run
ning a railroad that stirs the
imagination of one even when it's
only a 4.8 mile one.
"We're keeping a couple of
jumps atead of the sheriff," said
Fielding P. Sizer, president of (ho
C. & E. "It's fun. Not every man
has tiie opportunity to be running a
railroad, you know."
The C. & E. labors upgrade
from Cassvillc to Exeter , to pick
up whatever freight has been
dropped off at Exeter, Mo., by
the big Frisco. The Frisco gives
its rejected ties to the C. & F...
which has not been shy about ac
cepting them.
"We're not proud." Sizer said.

Panthers Await
Tough Contests
Special to The Bulletin
REDMOND Two games that
have .loomed before the Panthers
Aith, no prospects of being easy
contests will materialize this week
end when Redmond entertains
Lakeview and Burns, trading oppo
nents with Bend.
Redmond and Lakeview lead the
Central Oregon League, each un
defeated. The Honkers, however.
hold an edge with three wins to
Redmond's two, and have the un
blemished record of nine wins and
no losses for the season total. The
Panthers have won seven and lost
four .to date. Burns, in league
play, has two wins and a loss.
Coaches Marv Scott and Don
Campbell list probable starters
against Lakeview tonight as Earle
Smith and Merle Eakin, forwards,
Willard Robinette at center, and
Joe Peterson and Dave McCrea.
The southern squad will be Well
bolstered with veteran lcltermen
who have given plenty of trouble
in the past. The Panthers have
them on height but both teams
like to run, so a fast and close
contest is in prospect. Jayvees of
both teams will meet in a 6:30
preliminary.
The Burns inlanders are Satur
day night's opponents here, with
another jayvee prelim before the
main game. Aside from a six and
a half foot center the eastern team
is shaded a bit in height by the
Panthers, Scott believes. But they,
too, are reputed to be a speedy
outfit.
Saturday night is shut-in night,
with arrangements being made
through the compliments of the lo
cal press, radio and Armchair
Athletes to provide transportation
and seating for persons unable or
dinarily to get out to the basket
ball games. Half-time entertain
ment will feature trampoline and
wrestling exhibitions arranged by
athletic director Harry Gobelman.

Spurs Search
For Fliers
PEARL HARBOR, Til. (UP)
A search for a Navy PBY am
plnbian missing in mid-Pacific
wih seven men aboard took on
new vigor today with reports that
faint signals were picked up on
the international distress fre
quency.
More than -10 planes, aided by
four surface vessels, took off on
a gigantic mission of covering
KKSon piare miles of water, anl
.iioa I) ger than the state of.
Wyoni'i.g.
Tne planes were ordered, to I
scan the seas over a huge rec
tangle 6S0 miles long and ISO
miles wide between Johnston and
Kwajalein Islands.
The two - engined plane disap
peared Wednesday while on a
flight between Johnston and Kwa
jali'in. The pilot sent a message
saying he had feathered a' propel
lor. A Navy spokesman said signals
i on the international distress fre
quency were heard several times
last night. Ho.vever, he said they
were either too weak to determine
ineir origin, or else they came
from sources other than the miss
ing plane.
une such signal was heard on
three different receivers, but it
was too weak to be plotted.
None of the signals heard last
night was as strong as a distress
message picked up yesterday
morning .which was too brief to
plot. The spokesman said the
morning signal "appeared" to
have been transmitted by a Gib
son Girl type of emergency transmitter.

Panther Matmen
Rack Up Victory
Special to The Ruth-tin'
REDMOND The Panther wrest
lers came home from Sandy Wed
nesday night with another victory,
hinging on a default to heavy
weight Neale Callison and Louis
Rice pinning his opponent Wendy.
Holechek for Redmond pinned his
man, Delay, ,in a tough match.
Redmond also had two decisions
and two draws to Sandy's four de
cisions, two draws and. one pin.
The final score was 25 to 21 for
Redmond, defeating a heretofore
unbeaten strong Sandy team with
seven wins to its credit. Wrestling
in Sandy attracts fan support and
attendance comparable to basket
ball enthusiasm here, re
ports Coach Harry Gobelman.
Cheerleaders are on hand, he says,
to marshal the rooting and sup
port the wrestling matches
coached by Bob Woodward.
The Redmond jayvees lost to
Sandy, 22 to 18, but young Panther
Bill Stanton pinned his third man
this season in his match, Gobel
man reports.
Redmond wrestlers Dorsch and
Seal decisioned their opponents
Howatt and Clark, while matches
between Carlson and Clark
and Smith and Snelhers end
ed in draws. Snelhers is a three
year letterman, and he and team
mate Clark of Sandy have had
state tournement experience.
For Sandy, Buswell pinned Stew
art while four of their men, Side-
bottom, Bergeium, Linden and
Hauda decisioned respectively
Duncan, Bessey, Sandwick and
Burk.
Redmond's first home match will
be against Burns in the RUIIS gym
at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. RUIIS vars
ity wrestlers have won Ihree
matches and lost none to date,
while jayvees have won one
and lost two.
At this lime of year, when out
door activity in the building trades
has slowed down, it's a good idea
for home o.vners to lake care of
the small remodeling jobs that can
add so much to the comfort and
convenience of the home. Skilled
craftsmen are available Air such
Jobs as plumbing, carpentry, tile
laying, brick work and the dozen
and one other specialities thai may
figure in the home - improvement
project.
There ure projects for the do-it-yourself
handyman at this time of
year, too. Although he may re-j
quire the assistance of an expert
in the major renovating and re
modeling jobs, he can carry on
by installing towel racks, extra
shelves and ready-made cabinet
work, and maybe even doing some
of the decorating. If it's a room
iimt carries a maximum load of
family traffic, however, it's a good
plan to have a professional do tiie
principal painting and paper-hang
ing chores, so the rooms useful
ness will not be curtailed while the
after-hours handyman wields the
paint brush and paper roller.
New fixtures, gadgets and plans
are aimed to help break the bottle
neck in the family bathroom. The
early morning race to brush teeth,
wash or shave faces, shower ami
speed away to school or work on
time amid clamoring shouts that
'I got here first" must be as fam
iliar to other homemakers as it is
to me. It's scarcely a surprise to
us to read that housing surveys in
dicate two bathrooms or a balh-
and-a-'half are among the most
wanted features in a new home.
With new small-scale fixtures it
may be possible to shoehorn n
powder room into an existing
home. One manufacturer can' pack
all the bathroom facilities into a
five-'bv-five-foot space. The wash
basin is smaller than most and
the shower fits snugly into an
available corner. This company
also has an available sketch book
of ptans for remodeling old bath
rooms to provide more convenient
storage space and comfort,
ff one bathroom must serve the
family, consider ways to make it
more convenient. For example, if
you have an open-end tub and
shower combination, a storage
cabinet a'l the end coupled with a
homemade ladder arrangement of
racks will increase the space for
hanging towels, storing linens,
shampoos and such. Such a stor
age cabinet was made in one bath
room of plywood with perforated
sliding doors. The back and sides
next to the tub were covered with
the same styrene plastic wall tile
used around the tub arid shower.
The racks were made of two-by-fours
and rounds of wood, in
stalled in ladderlike arrangement.
Similar storage cabinets in enam
eled steel can be bought ready
made.
Trying to find space for cos
metics in the medicine caliinet is
a lost cause for mast of us. Ready

swing-top vanity hamper. A clean
and gleaming compartment on top
of a plastic-rovered hamper holds
make-up and an unbreakable mir
ror is screwed to the lid. The
compartment swings oirt to open
up me hamper underneath. This
fits in 20 inches of wall space.
Another device w1ii'h might put
more order into a crowded cabinet
is a bracket with six Rwinir . ni

The bracket can be mounted with
