In Lovely Home Ceremony
In an attractive ceremony last Saturday evening at the
home of the bride's' parents, Miss Christine Irene Ryman
and "Vefle Leon Mitchell were united in marriage. The Revf
Dean Toindextcr of the) Methodist Church performed the
ceremony in the presence of relatives and close friends of the
couple. . ,
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Ryman,
415 E. Lafayette. The bride-

The vows were exchanged before
the fireplace, which was decorated
with gladiolus. The glow of many
candles provided . the only Illumina
tion for tho Impressive rites, and
the rooms were decorated with ar
rangements of fall flowers. '.
Mrs. Bornice Towner played the
wedding music and accompanied
Miss Doris Aspinwall, who sang
"Homing" and "The Lord's
Prayer."
The bride was given In marriage
by her father. She wore" a ballerina
length gown of white embossed net
over white taffeta, with mandarin
collared jacket. Her shoulder-length
veil was gathered to a lace cup,
and she carried her Jobs Duug

sweet peas showered with ribbon.

the double-ring ceremony, in a
setting ot mixed gladiolus and

The bride was given In mar

light blue suit, with white and

"something old" was her heir

The newlvweds honeymooned
on the Oregon and California
coast, and were honored after
their return at a reception at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. f loya urn

The bridegroom has returned
to his base at Davisvllle, R. I.,
from which he will leave for Cu
ba. The bride will remain In Eu
gene, where she is employed at
the First National Bank.

was held for 34 guests. Those
from out-of-town included Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Watson, Redmond;
Mr. and Mrs. John Clark and son,
Rickey, Portland; Mr. and Mrs.
Carrel Boylan und children, Van
couver ; Mrs. Pete Peterson, The
Dalles, and Mrs. Lois Clark, Cam
as, Wash. Mrs. Peterson is the
bride's grandmother, and Mrs.
Clark is her aunt.
Mrs. Boylan.i the bride's sister,
cut the wedding' cake, and Mrs.
Howard Thom, aunt of the bride
groom, poured the coffee. Miss
Drucilla Bartlett served the punch.
The bride's table, was set with
crystal. The wedding cake was
garlanded with pink daisies, and
flanked with candelabra holding
lighted tapers.
The couple will moke their home
at 730 Georgia,
The bride was valedictorian of the
1952 Bend High School graduating
class, and is receptionist at the
Hemingway Memorial clinic.
The bridegroom was graduated
from Bend High School in 1951. He
Is employed at Ward Motor Co.

Lutheran Women's Missionary Fed
eration will be a silver tea, to be
held Saturday, Sept. 13, at the
church parsonage, 231 Idaho Ave

In Portland
Mrs. William Niskanen of Bend
will be speaker at a silver tea
Saturday afternoon at the Shrine
Club in Portland, at which the
Portland Kotana club will honor
its new officers. Invitations to
attend have been extended to the
Bend and Eedmond Rcjtana clubs,
and to the Portland Ensemble
Club, comprised of members of
13 women's organizations in the
city. '
' The party will be a benefit for
Rotana's project of assistance to
indigent p a 1 1 e n t s at Troiitdale
tuberculosis pavilllon; The tea
will be from 2 to 3 p. m., and
Mrs. Nlskanen's talk will follow.
Earlier, the Rotana groups will
have a no-hostess luncheon at the
Shrine Club.
Mrs. Niskanen will discuss the
status of women in countries she
observed on a European tour this
past spring. She traveled in Nor
way, Sweden, Finland, Denmark,
France and England.
Mrs. Niskanen, formerly Nina
McCord of Portland, was a mem
ber oi the Bend High school fac
ulty berore her marriage, and re
cently, taught commercial sub
jects at Central Oregon Commu
nity college. She is an uregon
State College graduate, and has
been active in local youth work
and music groups for a number
of years.
Members of the Bend Rotana
club who plan to attend the tea
and luncheon are being asked to
call Mrs. Earl Amiek, 1314-J, to
make reservations and arrange
for transportation.
Church to Honor
Pastor's Family
The Rev. and Mrs. Allan B.
Phllp and their family will be hon
ored at a reception Sunday after
noon, from 4 to 6 o'clock, in the
First Presbyterian church social
room. An invitation to attend is
being extended to all members of
the congregation, and other friends
of the Philps.
The Philps plan to leave Mon
day. Sept. 15, for Watsonville,
Calif., where the Rev. Philp has
accepted a pastorate. He has been
pastor of the local church for five
years.
The Women's Fellowship of the
church will be In charge of ar
rangements for the reception, as
sisted by the Youth Fellowship.

sion unit held Its first meeting of
the fall season last Friday ufter
noon at the home of Mrs. Sher
man Telford. Mrs. Russell Reeder,
chairman, appointed new chairmen

successful bidder for 250,000
board feet of pine and assorted
species in the Abbot Creek area
when that firm submitted an of
fer of $14.25, 25 cents above the
bid of Brooks-Scanlori, Inc., Bend.
In the second sale, involving
350,000 board feet of beetle in
fested or recently killed timber
in Dry Creek Swamp-Cache Creek
area, the Leonard Lundgren Lum
ber Co., Bend, submitted the high
bid, $18.55. The offer was well
above that of tbe only other bid
der, Brooks-Scanlon, Inc., which
made an offer of 13.75 per thous
and board feet. ,
