Flood Relief Bill Approved . Washington, July 17 IB ' The senate today passed and sent to the White House legislation granting $25,000,000 in emergen cy aid to the flood-devastated area of Kansas and Missouri. President Truman is expected to sign the bill immediately after he returns from a one-day flying Inspection1 tour of the flooded areas. After that pools of manpower and machines were scheduled to work in the district along Kan sas City's sloppy, debris covered Southwest -boulevard. A leading contractor was in charge of each iob. He drew men and equipment from the pools as needed. The corps of engineers of the army were prepared to assist. They were ready to cut down some of the dikes that had proven so Inadequate against the flood, to let high water out again into the still wide river.' The whole job would take "about a week," Cookingham es timated. It could be more or less. Everyone was prepared to work 10 hours a day and seven days a week until the job .was done. , No one connected with Disas ter Corp, Inc., had ever heard of the organization pf a similar, as sociation. ,- - - i- , "It was-created by the flood emergency," David M. Riding in a specially built hack, drawn by two spirited horses, was Grace Clark, who was driving the team. Also in the hack was her mother. Caplain Clark, who was riding ahead, of the main train; reached the Snake river first, and headed up the river to shoot some waterfowl. Hodson Clark, brother of Grace, mounted to. the driver's seat but before he could fire he was shot through the heart. Mrs. Clark was also killed, and Grace was shot through the chest. As she fell from the hack, the Indians started scalping her, just as Captain Clark, who had heard Grace scream, returned. Followed by his dogs, Captain Clark stirred up a great cloud of dust as he rode into the attacking Indians, who gave up the fight and disappeared. Survivors of the massacre loi- lowed a route across Oregon's high desert suggested by Joe Meek, who said a volcanic butte would guide the train to the Des chutes. - The party spent several days at the site of Pioneer park of the present. Uses Good English In unusually good English, she asked us questions, smiling pret tily for the news reels but refused to have anything to do with a radio broadcast.- The Chlnase looked incredulous ly at us when we asked if it were true there were former Japanese soldiers in the communist army. In fact, the question-had to 'be re peated twice because the Chinese thought it so ridiculous. Their -recorded answer was: "Never hoppen." - They insisted, however, that the UN used Japanese soldiers in Ko rea. They dragged out a tattered picture and story ; to prove it. They listened patiently, to our de nials. But you could see they didn't believe us. 1 The Chinese had a huddle when asked for opinions of America and came up with this answer: -, ."The old China was very friend ly with America and we like American newspapermen but. we hate the Americans who want war and fight peace.
