Golden-Weds
To be Feted
Prineville, July 17 Pioneer
friends from Crook, Jefferson and
Deschutes counties are expected
here next Tuesday afternoon to
congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Wil
liam Boegli at a reception at their
home, following a golden wedding
luncheon at the uchoco inn.
The couple were married on
July 17, 1901 at the home of the
bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil
liam Adams, in .tne cotnos iai
district just southeast of Prine
ville. A pioneer Prineville pastor,
Rev. B. F. Harper, officiated. The
. Adams family, pioneers in the
livestock Industry, had formerly
lived in tne Paulina district.
' Boegli is a native of San Fran
cisco, who came to Crook county
when 12 years old. He was an
early-day teacher and served as
; county school superintendent
from 1900 to 1904, Soon after his
term in that office he moved with
his family to the Cove, protected
spot in the heart of the Crooked
river gorge west of Culver. There
he developed central Oregon's
first i commercial orchard, which
was purchased by the state, when
San H .Boardman developed the
noted Cove-Palisades state park
for the state highway department.
Mr. and Mrs. Boegli moved in
1941 to Prineville, where he op
erates a small greenhouse. When
. Jefferson, county was formed in
1914, he was named by Governor
Oswald west as first county
Judge.
Expected for the golden wed
ding ceremonies are a son, Willis
C. Boegli, who is a regional U. S.
bureau of reclamation officer in
Amarillo, Texas, and Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil Youngstrom and fam
ily of Portland. Mrs. Youngstrom
is. the golden-weds' daughter.
Two sisters of the golden wed
ding bride, Mrs. Joan Yancey and
Mrs. Effie Lohuis, both of Prine
ville, will assist in the serving of
the Tuesday luncheon.

Recent Bride
At Lodge Meeting
Mrs. J. C, Jerome, the former
Esther Emery, was presented a
membership pin at the regular
Rebekah lodge meeting last Frl
dav niEht. Mrs. M. B. Smith pre
sented the pin, with Mrs. Oscar
Anderson assisting in tne cere
mony. Miss Kathryn Kelley gave
an original reading in Mrs. Je
rome's honor.
Mrs. Jerome, who is a recent
bride, was honored by the group
at a social hour following the
meeting. A Joint wedding gift was
presented.
Installation Set
Annouoncement was made that
joint installation of the Rebekahs,
Odd Fellows and Theta Rho girls
will be held Saturday, July 21, at
8 p.m. at the lodge hall.
Ceremonies for the adult lodges
will be conducted by Fred Gibson,
district deputy grand master, and
Mrs. C. E. Hein. district deputy
president. Mrs. Fred Gibson and
N. D. Graham will be installing
. marshals.

Is Party Honoree
Local members of the nursing
profession gathered last Thurs
day evening at the Grunefelder
home on E. 8th street, for a sur
prise bridal shower honoring
Miss Anna Grunefelder, anesthe
tist on the St. Charles Memorial
. hospital staff.
Miss Grunefelder plans to be
married late this month to Lars
Kleppe of Bismarck, N. D.
Some 20 friends of the honoree
were present for the party. The
evening was spent Informally,
and refreshments were served.

Observance Held
At Local Home
Mrs. Albertlne Tackman, a
long-time resident of Oregon, ob
served her 95th birthday Satur
day, July 14, at the home of her
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. W. H. Coahran.
Present for the occasion were
Mrs. Ralph Gilchrist and son,
Bob,- of Powell Butte. Mrs. Gil
christ is Mrs. Tackman's grand
daughter. Birthday cake was
served to callers, and flowers and
felicitations were received from
friends and relatives.
Mrs. Tackman came to The
Dalles In 1882, In a period of rail
road activity and homesteadlng
booms.
Mrs. Tackman Is the mother of
George Tackman of Prineville,
and of Mrs. Coahran. Grandsons
are William Tackman of Prine
ville, Patrick Tackman of Culver
and James Tackman, serving with
the army in Athens, Greece.
Mrs. Tackman makes her home
with the Coshrans.

the 4th annual conference of the
Washington state Moose associa
tion His address will be broadcast
from 9 to 9:30 p.m. standard time
via KHQ on July 19, and at 10:30
the same day daylight saving
time via KOMO. He will, speak on
the current Korean situation.
Former Kansans
Visit in Bend
Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Seems had
as guests this past week end, Mr.
and Mrs. John Spade of Smlla,
Colo., and their son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Ward Spade
of Grants Pass. The visitors and
the Bend residentsv were former
neighbors in Kansas.
Other former Kansans who
joined with the group for sight
seeing and picnicking were Mr.
and Mrs. Homer Emery and
daughters, Mary and Dorothy, Mr.
and Mrs. George Warner and Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Tlejen and daugh
ter, Carol.
The visitors were taken on a
tour of the lumber manufactur
ing plant of Brooks-Scanlon, Inc.,
and on a trip to Petersen's rock
gardens. It was the Spades' first
visit In Bend, and they comment
ed on the beauty of the central
Oregon scenery.

Redmond, July 17 Mrs. Mil
ton Odem was the honored guest
at a stork shower Friday after
noon at the home of Mi's. Dan
Nolan. Summer flowers were
used for color and the table was
decorated in pink , and blue
streamers ,with a stork centerpiece.
The guest list included present
and former staff members nt the
Odem theaters In Redmond. Some
20 guests attended, and several
who were unable to attend sent
gifts.
Assistant hostesses were Miss
Bonnlce Livingston and MUs
ileen Hayes.
LAWN PICNIC PLANNED

the Women's Christian fellow

join In an outdoor potluck lunch

Pfc. Marian House of Bend re
ceived a $25 defense bond and an
additional. gift for appearing on a
television show July 8, according,
to news from Camp Cooke, Calif.,
where Pfc. House is stationed.
Appearing with Miss House on
Dick Lane's Charades were Sgt,
Mary Orlando of Buffalo. N. Y.r
and Pfc. Elenora Evanow of Cor
nucopia, Wis., who also received
bonds and gifts. Sgt. Orlando is
between the other two girls in the
picture.
They acted certain slogans and
titles before the cameras while a
group of three male movie actors
tried to figure the words they
were getting across.
Pfc. House, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Farris, 112 Drake
road. Is a laboratory technician
at the United States army hos
pital at camp Cooke, She attend
ed the army's medical field serv
ice school at Fort Sam Houston,
Texas. She was graduated from
Bend high school with the class
of 1950.

Barbecue Planned
For Lodge Groups
Members of Canton Deschutes
No. 19, Patriarchs Militant, and
the ladies auxiliary, will hold an
outdoor barbecue and a meeting
Friday evening, July 20, at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Mer
chant, In Culver. The barbecue is
scheduled for 7 p.m., and the
meeting will follow at 8 o'clock.
Jesse T. Jones, department com
mander, and Mrs. Jones, will head
a group of visitors from Portland,
and a delegation from Pendleton
is also expected. A mustering-ln
ceremony will he held.

Redmond, July 17 Chapter de
velopment committee chairmen of
the Women of the Moose met Fri
day," July 13, at the home of Mrs.
Harold Flfer, senior regent. A
round-table discussion was held
and plans were laid for projects
which will begin in August.
Mrs. Frank Reid, Mooseheart
alumni chairman, will be in
charge of a luncheon to be served
at the Moose hall Friday, July 20,
following a meeting of the Loyal
Order of the Moose.
Women of the Moose have de
cided to enter a float in the Des
chutes county fair parade. Mrs.

Exhibition Group
To Dance on Roof
Members of the outdoor square
dance group at their regular Wed
nesday night party at the Strlck
lett pavilion will ."brush up" on
some of the squares to be used in
an exhibition at the dance on top
of the Oregon Journal building in
Portland on July 28.
It has also been announced that
members of the group wishing to
practice new round dances should
be at the pavilion by 7:30 tomor
row night. Square dancing will
follow at 8:30 p.m.

of public card parties, the first
of which will be Thursday, July
19, at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs.
M. C. Culler, 222 Urania. Mrs.

pointed out. Drivers were .advised
to turn east on Urania at the P
and W market. Her house is the
second on the right side of the
street.

members who attended the recent
state convention in Klamath Falls.
