Costello Rites

Funeral services for Eugene
Russell Costello, 29, who took his
own life Monday at an auto court
north of Bend, will be held later
this week from Colonial Mortu
ary in. Portland, relatives said to
day. Burial will be in Lincoln me
morial cemetery, Portland.
In Bend today to make arrange
ments were Mr. and Mrs. .Harry
Motschman. of Portland. Costel
lo's step-futher and mother. He
also leaves a sister, Mrs. Howard
Helgeson of Sisters; three aunts,
Mrs. Virginia Hunter, Mrs. uiara
Yeager and Mrs. Juno Bowman,
all of Portland, and an uncle,
Earnic Mills, of Walla Walla,
Wash.
Wax Despondent
Costello was despondent over
the death of his wife, Motscnman
said. Mrs. Costello died May 24
alter a three-month illness. .1

visit with Mrs. Helgeson in Sis
ters. I he Motschmans were re
turning to Portland when the sui
cide occurred. Costello had ap
parently become restless and told
his sister that he had decided to
eturn to Portland. She brought
him to Bend and left him at the
bus depot, assuming that he left
shortly afterward.
Instead, Costello engaged
tax cab and went to a motel, on
highway 97 nine miles north of
Bend, and shot himself with a Xi
caliber revolver.
Mr. and Mrs. Motschman stop
ned at the auto court en route
back to Portland, and were mere
after Costello checked in. The
Motschmans and Mr. and Mrs.
Costello had. stayed at the auto
court about a month ago, and tut
Portland couple left behind
package, which they picked up
Monday. Not knowing that cos
tello was there, they continued
north.
Costello had been employed as
a service station attendant
Portland.
