Bulletin Classifieds Bring Results .00 r Cko Bureau Offers Potato Program Washington, April 10 IP The American. Farm Bureau federa tion came up today with its an swer to the surplus potato proD lent marketing agreements coup led with a system of price sup ports which would vary by grade. Such a plan, it said, would re duce potato support costs to a "fraction" of the present muiu-million-dollar outlay. Federation president Allan B. Kline outlined the proposal In a letter to Chairman Allen J. Ellen der, D., La., of a senate sub-committee which is studying the po tato problem. Kline doubted that the new potato law would work and urged congress to replace it with the federation's Plan. Under its proposal, top-graded potatoes would be supported at 60 per cent of parity. Poorer grades would receive proportion ately lower supports. The agriculture department has tried price differentials before, but not with marketing agree ments.
