His son, John, who directed him in his Oscar-winning role, was at his side when he died. Huston's wife, Nan, is in New York but will return to Holly wood immediately. The body was taken to Pierce Brothers' mortuary in Beverly Hills and funeral arrangements will be announced later. Grand Jury (Continued from Page 1) is in excellent shape throughout and that the inmates are satisfied as to the treatment and service they are receiving. "We found the Redmond city jail in excellent condition. The walls are painted and mattresses are provided for the inmates. Mattresses Urged "We found the Bend city jail is in fine shape with the exception that the beds have no mattresses and we recommend that mattress es be provided for those inmates who may be considered a good risk and not apt to set fire to the bedding. We further recommend that the walls of the Bend city jail be painted. "As to the county courthouse, we find that it is in deplorable conidtion in some respects, espe cially as to cleanliness of walls in many of the rooms of the building. We recommend a pro gram of cleaning and painting of the walls to be started at once and that such work be continued and finished Whenever money is, or can be made available for such purpose. We request that special attention be given to the rooms known as the 'asembly rooms' on the first floor of the court house. The walls are disgracefully dirty and the small room is being used to store odds and ends which spoils and looks and affects the use of the rooms as a whole. We recommend that the walls of these rooms be cleaned or other wise made presentable as soon as possible; also, without undue de lay, that all things not considered furnishings of the rooms be re moved at once and stored else where. We further recommend that the old back-breaking bench es in the assembly rooms be re placed with chairs. Approve County Home "We are greatly impressed with all of the appointments of the county home for the aged known as the Sunset Home and wlth"rfs management and help and with the cleanliness of the building and the evident care of the inmates and their contentment. We believe that this institution is something that all citizens of this county can be proud of. "This grand jury also wishes to commend our district attorney for his help in all matters and for the expeditious manner in which all work was presented to us. "Having now finished our work at this time, we respectfully re quest that we now be discharged subject to further call, "Dated at Bend, Deschutes county, Oregon, this 6th day of April, 1950. Each was shot four times wilh .32 caliber slugs. But the bullets came from two separate guns. '. Motive Uncertain Some officers were operating on the theory that the two men were slain to prevent them from testifying about Kansas City un derworld activities before a fed. eral grand jury. Both men were under subpoena to appear before the jury at the time they were killed. Federal officials said today that the grand jury would continue its Investigation despite the killings. Inasmuch as they were under federal subpoena it appeared that the federal bureau of investiga. tion might enter the case. The G-men were urged to do so by Gov. Forrest Smith, who had Binaggio's support for election, but the FBI refused to say whether it would act on his re quest. Politics Hinted The killings here drew strong comment in congress. Republi can Rep. Dewey Short of Mis souri said on the house floor that Binaggio was Dumped oil" be cause he was "in the way" in the state democratic senatorial pri mary. Short said he was informed "reliably" that the north side po litical strong man was backing a candidate for senator, Tom Hennings, who was opposed by President Truman and the old Pendergast machine. There were some persons here and in Chicago and Washington who believed the killings may have been arranged by "the com bination," an alleged national crime syndicate holding control of the country's gambling opera tions. Many city officials and organ izations across the country have charged recently that such a syndicate, headed by Frank Cos tello of New York and remnants of the old Capone mob of Chi cago, is infesting the nation. Rep. W. Kingsland Macy, R., N. Y said the killing of Binag gio and Gargotta emphasized the need for a congressional investi gation of such organized crime which he said has "the nation in a strangle clutch."
