OREGON Smoker Set At Redmond On Tuesday Redmond, March 24 (Special) The only smoker of the year will be held next Tuesday night at the Redmond union high school gym. Ten bouts will be featured on the card, which begins at 8 p.m. Harry Gobelman, boys physical education instructor at the high school, is in charge of the event. Murray, Louis and Paul Dob bin visited at the home of Doug las and Gordon McCulloch Tues day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gobelman are the parents of a son born Wednesday morning at the Medical-Dental hospital. The Gobe! mans have two daughters, and their son was born on the birth day anniversary of the eldest daughter, Tony. Mrs. Maude Lee, Mrs. Irene Boone and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Norton were hosts to the Red mond high school faculty at an April Kool party Thursday at G:30 1n the Home Ec room at the high school. The topsy-turvy theme was carried out in decorations, serving, and in the invitations. Mrs. Olive Fairchild of the Red mond Rebekah lodge was a guest at the True Rebekah lodge in Ter rebonne last Monday evening. Redmond Odd Fellows have made arrangements to donate a shrub to be used in the landscap ing of the John Tuck school, ac cording to members. Mrs. Owen Brown will be hos tess to the Redmond Grange home economics, club at her homo April 4. The Arcme club will meet at the home of Mrs. Arthur Ed-1 monds April 11. Mrs. Tom Feazle spent the week end at the coast visiting her hus band and other relatives. Ted Wells, Bob Christy, and Gerald Eby are home from col lege for their spring vacation. The boys are attending Oregon State college. Jesse Powers will speak night ly at the First Baptist church in Redmond beginning March 21 and carrying through April 2, accord ing to' Virgil Savage, pastor. Mr. and Mrs. Chick Peden and family called upon friends in Ma dras Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Max Otey of C003 Bay visited at the home of Mrs. Otey's mother, Mrs. Alta Clark last week. The Oteys left their little daughter, Margaret Ann, for an extended visit with her grandmother. Robert Scouton of Portland was a recent visitor at the home of his mother, Mrs. Alta Clark. Mrs. Nellie Sears was hostess to the Sorosis club Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. M. Pauls. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Liska were Monday night visitors at the Wes ley McCulloch home. Pat and Beverly Abbe with drew from Redmond union high school Tuesday to move with their mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Ackerman, to Gladstone, Ore. The juniors held a special class meeting Tuesday noon to decide on spring activity dates. The junior-senior banquet has been sche duled for May 2, and the prom for May 9. Mr. and Mrs. Derrell Sharp were in Portland last week end. Sharp went for a medical checkup. Mrs. Hazel Cate, who has been slaying with her son-in-law and daughter for some lime, has mov ed back into her own apartment Mrs. Cate is recuperating from an Illness which makes it impossible for her to continue her work In the ready-to-wear at Roberts, Inc. She hopes to be able to resume her work in the near future. Spring vacation for RUHS stu dents will begin March 31. School will be resumed April 5. Plan Concert At Redmond Redmond, March 24 (Special) The University Singers of the University of Oregon will present an afternoon concert at Redmond high school next Wednesday after noon. The program will include a wide variety of numbers, ranging from classical to folk music. Alberta Sage will be editor of next year's Redmond high school annual, "The Juniper," and Tom Cox will edit "Panther Scratches," the school newspaper. Both were appointed last week by Mrs. Del la Nance, faculty adviser. All instructors on this year's Redmond high school faculty have been offered contracts fo: next year, according to an an nouncement from the administration. Mrs. Dora Thompson of Bend is visiting at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burgess. Prineville, visited at the home of Mr. Burgess' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Burgess. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Taylor and David visited In Eugene recently. Barbara Cook and Tony Cook have returned from a visit with relatives in Portland. Mertie Conklin accompanied them. Job placement activities and un employment claims will be han dled by those who qualify. Start ing pay is $20 a month with va cation and sick leave privileges. Positions may be open either in the Salem central office or at one of the 26 local offices in Oregon. A combination of three years of college or responsible business or government experience is re quired of those taking the tests. Full details may be obtained from Price's office in the basement of the courthouse in Bend. Applications for the exams must be made by April 8, Price said.
