Silva, apparently vexed by the misfortune, dashed to his 1930S sedan and deliberately drove it over the edge, piling into the flaming wreckage of his truck. Silva escaped without a scratch and was hustled off by authori ties for observation. Red Cross Fund Campaign Lags The 1950 Red Cross member ship campaign is lagging, and as a result the local chapter faces some serious possibilities, it was learned today following a meeting of (lie chapter executive commit tee. Up until today, only about one-fourth of the $12,600 quota had been obtained. In the campaign for funds, the chapter has been attempting to reach all people In the county. Volunteer workers have been on the job, working under the super vision of Harold Aspinwall, roll call chairman. Aspinwall and his assistants pointed out today that failure of the county to attain its quota may. endanger the water safety pro gram, which was to be stressed this year in connection witn in struction at the new Bend munici pal tank. First aid and home nurs ing are other activities that might sutler, it was pointed out. As provided By a federal stat ute, the American Red Cross has an official responsibility to sere the armed forces, with more than a million and a half men slid under arms in the regular forces, it has been pointed out.
