Pomerantz, attor ney for Gubitchev, demanded a mistrial because of "the highly Inflammatory remarks" of the government attorney In the "al ready highly charged case." He charged the government's "drag ging this up is indecent and im proper." The fact that these are used for the purpose of mak ing blast measurements at Ala mogordo and other testing points Is highly restricted by Amtorg. Apparently must have some knowledge of their use." The papers also included an al leged apology by Miss Coplon for not being able to gather more evidence from governrent files to show which communist agents had been detected and were no longer useful. There also were 33 slips taken from justice department files which gave the place and time various persons had been seen by FBI agents contacting soviet rep resentatives. France Moves To Halt Strike Paris, Feb. 28 W The govern ment took emergency measures today against a nation-wide strike movement that threatened to paralyze France's economic life. Premier George Bidault's key ministers met after Paris bus and subway employes voted for an in definite walkout. Nearly 200,000 workers were idle in the automo bile and metal industries In Paris and the provinces. Walkouts or labor unrest surg ed through French ports, the building industry, the national ized gas and electricity plants, mines, textile, chemical and paper industries. The snowballing strike move ment confronted the nation with Its gravest labor crisis since the end of 1948. Communist-led mal contents then tied up, the whole country and brought It to the brink of civil war. The' strike wave stemmed from the dissolution by parliament of a 10-year freeze on wages. Potatoes (Continued from Page 1) stocks of surplus potatoes, dried eggs and dried- milk acquired un der price support. The government s price support hoard also includes 83,000,000 pounds of butter valued at more than $50,000,000. The butter w::s . bought to bolster dairy prk'es In ,' 1949 Prospects are the denrirt ment soon will have to start buy-, Ing up even more butter uni!er its 1950 support program. Two Choices Thus, officials said, the deport ment soon will have to start dis posing of 1949 slocks. They said the department can get rid of the butter through two possible out lets: 1. Give away the butter to welfare agencies for distribution to the needy Irr this country, or 2, Sell the butter abroad at cut- rate prices. Neither alternative Is attractive to department pollcy-mal'ers. On the one hand, a vast domestic giveaway program might cut into normal commercial sales of butter and bring protesis nom the butter trade. Furthermore, all of the government's invest ment in the butter would be lost If it were given away. On the other hand, a foreign butter dumping operation might have serious international reper-. cussions. The United S'.ates nor mally doesn't export butler. The world price is far below that of the United States. ili RELIEF FOR TROUBLED FEET come in now for A FREE TEST Painful foot trouble is a serious matter. Don't let it make life miser able for you.
