FEBRUARY 23,1950 THE BEND BULLETIN, BEND, OREGON PAGE FIFTEEN f Bend Merchants Stage Dollar Days Event I S! ?i ft Chamber of Commerce Helps Local Business Men Stage Unusual Merchandise Fete i At least 46 unusual appearing dollar bills will be put in cir culation in Bend Saturday when local merchants, in coopera tion with the chamber of commerce, open their week-long "Boomerang Dollar Days" program. The dollar bills will be unusual in that they will bear 25 inch tapes, attached by metal railroad seals. Merchants (to day numbering 46) who plan to participate in the program will issue these "boomerang dollars to customers in the course, of regular business transactions Saturday morn ing. Object of the program is to keep these unique dollar bills in circulation in either the hands of local customers or local stores f a one-week period. In trans , actions where the "boomerang" dollars are used endorsement of the tapes will be asked. Conclusion March 4 Conclusion of the program Is set for the afternon of Saturday, March 4. At that time .the "boom erang" dollars will be collected and it will then be determined how many times the bills changed hands in the course of the week. In conjunction with the "boom erang" dollar program, participa ting merchants plan to feature a series of special dollar-value sales throughout the week. General chairman in charge of the program is Ralph Baker, chairman of the chamber's retail merchants committee. He stated that all local patrons are invited to participate in the program. Rules governing participation are outlined in window display placards which front merchants stores. Brooks-Scanlon The R. C. Hooker family were Sunday visitors at the W. B. Hocket home. Play practice for National 4-H week March 3, was held at the home of Mrs. Curt Roberts Thursday, for Knitting and Sew ing II clubs. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ole Larson Monday. The baby weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sprouse of Seattle, and Will Tigard from Nebraska visited at the Harold Kelp home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grindlo, Mr. and Mrs. George Pierce and Char lie; Mr. and Mis. M. Obtains Barbar.y Sheep Santa Fe, N.M. (IP) The New Mexico state game department hopes to offer sportsmen a new kind of game in a few years. Eight Barbary sheep, native to North Africa, have been "plant ed" in a remote, sparsely-vege tated area in the deep and rocky Canadian river canyon west of Mills, N.M. The state game warden, Elliott Barker .said it is hoped the Bar bary sheep will multiply to an extent that they can be hunted in large numbers. Dr. August V. Raspet. director of sailplane experiments at Mis sissippi state college, once taugni a trained buzzard to soar carry ing a tiny speed and height measuring instrument which wpighed about an ounce. Shortly after he was well-trained, the buz zard died. In using buzzards. Dr. Raspet explained that they somehow manage to control air flow, or to adapt the shape or position of their wing tips to take advan tage ot air now, better than man knows how to do."
