Louis and Puul Dobbins spent Tuesday evening with Cordon Me Culloch, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. McCulloch. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Simmons and Mrs. Richard Calvez were guests at the dinner for the high school faculty Tuesday night. Mr. Simmons is a member of the Red mond union high school board, and Mrs. Calvez Is the daughter of Mrs. Irene Boone, commerce teacher at the high school. Thursday, February 23, Pastor Peter A. Hunlie will conduct the first lenten service at 8 p.m. at the Redmond Lutheran church. These services will be continued each Thursday during the lenten season. Honoring Mrs. C. Z. Peden on her birthday anniversary Satur day night, a group of relatives gathered at the Peden home for an informal evening. Those at tending the party were Mr. and Mrs. h. A. Tentative plans were for en tertaining the Rebekahs in the near future. Cuinn Peden Is back in high school after recovering from an appendectomy. The Women of the Moose have scheduled an alumni breakfast for Sunday morning, February 19 from 9 a. m. to 11 a. m. All Moose members and their guests are be ing urged to attend. Mrs. Richard Wye is recovering at her home from recent surgery. She was released from the Medi cal Dental Clinic Tuesday, Febru ary 14. Information about the various scholarships available to seniors has been given to the seniors by William Usher, senior class ad viser. Two of this year's gradu ates from Redmond union high have already received scholar ships. Donald Wolf received the NROTC scholarship, and Ken neth Vlesas was awarded the Standard Oil of California schol arship. The university singers, a mixed group from the school of music at the University of Oregon, will present an assembly the after noon of March 29 in the RUHS gym. This mixed group of forty voices was highly successful last year on a tour of the coastal re gions and Portland. Both student and adult audiences acclaimed the performances. A delegation of Tumalo resi dents attended the county court session Wednesday morning when the question of a beer li cense for Tumalo was brought up. Chemical Blast Kills 8 Persons Midland, Mich., Feb. 17 UP) Dow Chemical company said to day that the explosion which ripped through a paint labora tory, killing eight and injuring 26, caused more than $500,000 dam age. The blast tore off the roof yes terday and wrecked one side of the two-story, block-long brick building which housed the firm's latex plant. Fire broke out and firemen battled three hours. Authorities said they had no clue to the cause of the explo sion. Lam bert's topic was "Brotherhood:'' He presented a program of ac tion as outlined by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Inc. Marshal Aiken was welcomed as a new member of the club. RESCUERS RESCUED Nashville, Ind. HR Stale high way department employes Virgil Woods and Lee Lister were busy during a flood helping motorists and keeping check on the flood waters. They were driving along a flooded section of the road when their truck slid off into a ditch. They crawled onto the top of their truck and waited until rescuers came to rescue the res cuers.
