the County Court met this 30th
day of December, 1949, at 10:00
o'clock a.m., for the purpose of
awarding Deschutes County's
gasoline contract for 1950. Bids
were submitted by seven petro
leum firms and the contract was
awarded to Tide Water Associ
ated Oil Co. on its bid of 20.74
cents per gallon on a tank wagon
load and 20.49 cents per gallon
on a transport load,

Of Juvenile Counselor:
The County entered into an
agreement with the City of Bend,
wherein G. J. Turner, Juvenile
Counselor, was to be paid $283.33
per month and mileage St the
rate of fa cents per mile, the City
to stand half the expense and the
County the other half. The City
agreed to pay for half the month
of December and bill the County

(Special) John Mellot and Neil
Winkle went hunting on the John
Day river Saturday. They report
ed a fair bag of game.
Visitors at the Nell Winkle
home Saturday were his cousin,
Mrs. John Briscoe of Mitchell and
Mrs. Lester Winkle. Mr.'Briscoe
Is in the Prineville hospital recov
ering from a logging accident.
Carroll (Tex) Dlckerson has
returned to his home from the
Good Samaritan hospital In Port
land where he had been hospital
ized for the past three weeks. Mr.
Dlckerson underwent major sur
gery on his back. He expects to
be confined to his home in a body
cast for some two months.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ackley
and family spent last week in
Baker where they attended the
funeral of Mrs. Ackley's father,
N. L. Springer. He died in Bend
December 30. (
The clothing II class of Sisters
met at the home of Mrs. C. J.
de Sully, leader, on Thursday,
Jan. 5. Five members were pres
ent.. Refreshments were served
by Shirley Howard, Margaret Mil
lius and Nellie Curtis. The next
meeting will be held February 2,
with Judy de Sully and Jacque
line Hoekett on tne reiresnmem
committee.
The W. B. Hoekett family were
Saturday evening dinner guests
at the R. C. Hooker home.
A regular meeting of the
Brooks-Scanlon home extension
unit was held at the home of Mrs.
Grace de Sully on Jan. 4. The
topic of the day was "Improved
Home Lighting" and was. con
ducted by the county demonstra
tion agent, Ruth Shelton. The
next meeting will be held at the
Guild hall on Feb. 8 and the topic
will be "Making Lampshades."
Dixie Coverhlll, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Berthold Coverhlll,
spent the week end at the home
of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Samples in Tumalo.
Mr. and Mrs. George Curtis and
daughter, Nellie, and Mrs. - Oat
man went to Eugene Sunday. Mrs.
Curtis remained for a two week
visit with her mother.
. Miss Opal Sloan of Tumalo was
a week end guest at the home of
her brother, Roy Sloan.
