Major im provement was the construction of a paved runway. Soon lights will be installed. The large picture at the left shows the runway, with the white Cascades in the background. The surfaced runway slashes across the center of the picture. In the foreground is one of the older runways, still available for use. The airport hangars and administration buildings are shown nearly in the center of the picture. The picture was taken this week by Web Loy, Bulletin photographer. This past summer, the Bend airfield was one of the busy spots on the crossroads of Oregon, with planes stopping here en route east, west, north and south. Other pictures on this page illustrate activities of the Tilse-Bowman Flying service, operated by Ollie' Bowman and A. J. Tilse, who also have a flying service at the Red mond airport. Bowman is in charge of operations locally w1 and Tilse is in charge in Redmond. They were erected two years ago, following the fire that razed a hangar and resulted in the loss of a number of planes. The new hmigurs are of concrete. Directly in front of the hangars are the aprons that lead out to the new paved runway. Student Get Briefing From Instructor Shown here is a plane receiving fuel at the Bend municipal airport, with Al Larson handling the hose. The picture was taken earlier this week us a light covering of snow covered the airport. Planes from many parts of America stop at the Bend airport through the year.
