Give Program
Redmond, Doc. 24 The two

terian church presented an eve
ning of ChrUtmos music Thurs
day nt (h cherch. Mrs. Victor
Clark, otKanlst, played "Christ
mas Pastorale" by Marker as the
prelude. The chanced choir and
youth choir sang a group of carols
as their processional. The frst
anthem sung hy the adult choir
was "What Wondrous Thing Is
This?" by Wesley. This was fol
lowed by a carol sung bv the
junior choir. The "Virgin's Slum
ber Song" was presented bv the
women s voices and Miss Marga
ret Holm played "Adagio" as a
clarinet solo.
Three anthems were sung by
the chancel choir alternately with
ns many enrols sung bv the junior
choir. Mrs.- Wesley Baker sang
a Negro spiritual, "Sweet Little
Jesus Boy," and W. H. Stauf
facher and his daughter, Jeanne,
sang, "Glory to Cod In the High
est" by Pergolesl as a duet.
As a final number the combin
ed choirs sr.ng "The First Noel"
nnd after the benediction, the two
choirs sang "Silent Night" as
their recessional. Mrs. Clark
played "Tollite Hostias" by C.
Saint-Sacns as the organ postlude.
The chancel choir is directed by
W. H. Stauffacher, and the vouth
choir is led by Miss Jeanne Stauffacher.

Father Tosses
Child to Safety
Independence, Ore.. Dec. 24 tP
Francis Holt of Independence
tossed his two-year-old daughter
to safety Friday night just be
fore he was struck bv un auto
while he was crossing the street.
After tossing the girl toward
the sidewalk. Holt threw himself
flat. The car ran over his legs.
He was taken to a hospital where
attendants said his injuries did
not appear to be serious. The
girl, Sonnie, was unhurt.
Holt said he was crossing the
street and saw he would no' be
able to avoid the car. Pclice said
the driver of the car was William
Paul Hirschy, 21. of Independence,
an Oregon Technical institute
student home on vacation.

chased a school bus from the

Harold Everdeen. 19. Myrtle
Point. Ore., were pulled from the
wreckage and taken to Healds
burg General hospital. Neither
was seriously injured.
State highway patrolman Lar
ry Walker said the family was

ConneU in Napa. A number of
gaily wrapped Christmas pack
ages were scattered around the
wreckage.

Citizens' Sought
Portland. Dec. 24 tli Mayor
Dorothy AicCullough Lee of Port
land today Said she will reintro
duce an ordinance before the city
council to require persons work
ing in Portland but living outside
the city limits to pay un annual
license fee of $25.
Mayor Lee estimated such an
ordinance would yield about
S750.000 to help bolster a sagging
city budget.
She said about 30 to 35.000 so
called "daylight citizens" could be
taxed under the measure. Mayor
Lee was opposed to a plan ad
vanced bv Finance commissioner
Ormand ft. Bean which would cut
city departments 10 per cent
across the board.
She said such cuts would re
sult in "sub-standard" service.

He was treated by a Chlco doc
tor and sent to bed tit Walker's
home.
