A large crowd was present for the 8 o'clock performance, lianccs and performers were as follows: Waltz clog, by Lorl Ranger, Ann Westfall, Nancy penman, Doris McDonald, Jean Bookman and Claire Bucknum; boogie dance, by Betty Anllket; soft shoe rhythm, by Sally Stearns, Sally Summers, and Patty Rogerson; sailors' hornpipe, by Sandra Rollins; cane dance, by Dlanne Hill and Jan Bowlus; Irish Jig by the first named group; stair acrobatics by Judy and Jackie Bowlus; toe tap dance by Mary King, and hoe dance, by Sally Stearns, Sally Summers and Patty Rogerson. Following the dancing perform, nnce, the regular session of Tum alo grangn No. C31 was held with the new officers, headed by It. R. Pattlnson, master, filling their of fices for the first time. After the business session of the grange the remainder of- the lecturer's program, which consist ed of a showing of moving pic tures of Gcneran Chennault's Fly ing Tigers In China, was given by Lawrence Hawkins, chief of the U. S. navy recruiting service. Clam chowder was served follow ing the meeting by the grange bachelors, namely Garnet McCart ney, Walt Lowe, Harry Gossler, C. R. Chevinius and J. L. Jones. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Hanneman of Madras were visitors here last Thursday morning. The Hanne mans recently bought 160 acres of land three miles east of Mad ras and plan to build a house there soon. At present they are living In a basement house on the place. Lester McDaniels retu r n e d home Wednesday of last week from the St. Charles hospital fol lowing a stay of several days there, caused by a sudden heart attack. Slippery pavement last Wed nesday morning caused several accidents between Tumalo and Bend, among them being cars belonging to Mrs. John Wright of Glen Vista and to Mrs. Bob Hanneman of Tumalo. Mrs. Wright was seriously Injured when her car hit a tree when It went out of control on an icy spot and Mrs. Hanneman's pick up failed to make the turn on the Tumalo grade and went on over the side for a distance of about 15 or 18 feet. Buddy, Mrs. Hanne man's son, who was along, was able to get the car door open wide enough to get out and through his assistance, his moth er was extricated. Buddy suf fered a broken collar bone and shoulder blade and Mrs. Hanne man received multiple bruises but not broken bones. Tillicum Study club met at the home of Mrs. Fred Shepard Tues day of last week with Mrs. Harry Windom the assistant hostess. Twenty-one women were present for the. noon luncheon, including a visitor, Mrs. J. P. Crawford of Bend. Mrs. W. D. Collins dnd Mrs. Gene Davis read a Chritmas story and several Christmas poems respectively, following which Chritmas carols were sung by the group and a gift exchange was held. New Year's eve club members and their husbands will attend a watch party at the E. W. Putnam home. Juniper Garden club met Wed nesday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Fay Beach In Bend for the purpose of making Christmas wreaths and other Christmas decorations of ever greens. . Sixteen women attend ed and, following the afternoon of work, refreshments were serv ed by the hostess. Tom accom panied four other students who were driving home to Los Ange les for the Christmas holiday vacation, and the four were over night guests at the Sandwick home. Word was received Saturday morning by Fred Shepard of the death of his nephew, Willis Hath away, at Long Beach, Calif. His death followed a long Illness. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hartford left Sunday morning for Salem, Mo., where'they will spend Christ mas and New Years with Mrs. Hartford's parents. The Hart- fords are making the trip by car. Fayet Scoggln left Friday eve ning bv bus for Glenilale. Calif., where he will attend the wedding of one of his friends In the navy. He plana to return home by the middle of this week. Mr. ond Mrs. Norval Grubb of Portland are arriving Saturday of this week at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Grubb, for Christmas. Mrs. W. L. Wilson and daugh ter, Margie, were recent week-end guests in Eugene where they went to attend the golden wed ding celebration of Mrs. Wilson's parents. Due to poor neaitn. however. Mrs. Wilson's mother was unable to attend the planned ct-lebration and a substitute gath ering was arranged at her homo. by close relatives. Mrs. T. G. Becker accompan ied her brother, Ray Gerking, to Athena Friday where they went to see a brother who has been ill for some time. Clay Shepard arrived home Sat urday night for the holidays from McMinnville. He attends school there. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hunnel mov ed to Bend Saturday from Ked- mond. where they had lived since their marriage in August. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Zeigler and daughter, Cleta. and Murray Dob bins, are leaving Wednesday bins, left Wednesday morning for San Diego. They will spend Christmas with Zeigler's son. Cyril, who is in the navy and is stationed there. The Zeiglers are driving to California and plan to return home shortly after the first of the year. Dr. and Mrs. Carl Hansen and two daughters are moving from Denver, Colo., to San Francisco after the first of the year where Dr. Hansen, wno is in the medi cal corps, will be located at the Letterman's hospital. Mrs. Han sen will be remembered here as the former Ruth Baker of Tum alo. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Collins and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Scott of Bend were Sunday afternoon callers at the Fred Shepard and the C. I. Dunlap homes. This was Scott's first trip out since he was in jured in an accident last July. Joe Henry has been ill the past week. HOW ABOUT 1930? Flint, Mich. Pi Sept. 27th is a red letter day in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald btevens. Their three children, all girls. were all born on that date. Donna Marie was born in 1947. A year later Sharon June arrived. Last Sept 27, Marie Lou was born. Sssgrsm Department Pays Veterans' Taxes A total of S12,JWio3 was paid this year by the Oreuon depart, ment ot veterans affairs for prop erty taxes on farms and homes of world war II veterans In IV chutes county, it was reported today by William K. Caaivii stiwm, director. The total paid In this manner over the state by the department amounted to $214,171.17, he said. This represented an increase of 118 er cent over taxes paid by the i department a year oro, amounting to S97.973. Property included is that on which the veterans' agency holds mortgages as result of loans to world war II veteruns for the acquisition of farms and homes. The department collects taxes monthly from its C.t property holders and in turn ys the tax to the counties. By paying the tax in advance of the Nov. 15 deadline, the de partment effected a 3 per cent discount amounting to a saving of about StiliOO for the property holders Involved, Caarenstroom said.
