Stocks Steady
In N. Y. Market
New York, Dec. 9 (IP) A serle
of year-end adjustments left tho
stock market little changed to
day on turnover of around 1,
500,000 shares.
Considerable selcctivo buying
sent special stocks up substan
tially. Selling to establish gains
for the Income tax report and
short covering to establish losses
appeared to offset each other In
the leading sections.
Leading steeis slipped back
slightly. Motors ruled steady to
firm on hopes lor a big rise lo
output next week after this
week's slump to a new 3',i year
low. !
A sizable group of Issues
managed to move into new high
ground lor the year. They in
cluded issues from such groups
as television, tobacco, oil, chem
ical, liquor, tire, mercantile, and
electrical equipment
Kalis had been dragged down
by Nickel Plate through most of
the session but this issue rallied
before closing. Panhandle East
ern Pipe Line had a wide loss
and pulled down utilities foi
their first average loss since
November 29.
Rabbit Hunters
Welcome Snow
Bend rabbit hunters, looking
forward to their quest fcr cotton
tails Sunday, welcomed the light
fall of snow that covered parts of
central Oregon today. The snow,
if it remains on the ground, will
greatly improve hunting condi
tions, the leaders of the Sunday
expedition said. .
Deschutes County Sportsmen
association members will compete
with the Izaak Walton league
members In the Sunday rabbit
hunt, with the victors to be guests
of the losers at a dinner on Tues
day. Rabbit win be served.
Hunters are to go into the field
Sunday morning, following a
meeting at the West Side tavern
at 8 o'clock. A widely scattered
hunt is planned.
