shall De subject to quarterly
calendar adjustment upward or
downward by 0.4 of the difference
between the Western Pine Associ

mined as set forth below and the
average of the Western Pine As
sociation index prices as calcu
lated by the Forest Service at the
end of each quarter. Such adjust
ment in the additional amounts
for stumpage shall be applicable
to timber cut and scaled during
the calendar quarter for which
the adjustment is computed. In
no event, however, will the ad
justed stumpage rates for each
quarter be less than the basic ap
praised rate as first stated above.
The base index prices for this sale
are an average of the monthly
Western Pine Association lumber
price Indices from October 1,
1947. to March 31. 1948. for pon
derosa. pine. The provisions of
the quarterly adjustments shall
he effective unal July l. 1951, or
until 10.000.000 feet have been
cut and scaled If that amount is
not cut and scaled prior to that
date. On July 1, 1951, and at
other times, as stated in the con
tract, rates will be redetermined
by the Regional Forester. In no
event, however, will rates be
established which are less than
the basic appraised rates as first
above stated and in no event will
rates for payment of stumpage
on or after July 1, 1951, be less
than those determined m accord
ance with the reappraisal provi
sions of the agreement. In addi
tion to the prices bid for stump
age, a cooperative deposit of $0.75
per M feet B.M., to be used by
the t orest berviee lor paying tne
cost of slash disposal, and a co
operative deposit of $0.70 per M
feet B.M., to cover tne cost ol
tree planting, seed sowing and
timber stand improvement work

If an oral bid is declared to be

tion, the bidder must immediately
make the required payment and
confirm the bid by submitting it
in writing on a Forest Service
bid form. The right to reject any

Years Old, Fatal

ary today asked the coroner's of
fice for permission to bury a man
who died of knife wounds suf
fered seven years ago.
Authorities said Clarence R.
Russell died at his home last
Thursday and a report from the
veterans hospital was the result
of spinal paralysis caused by a
knife wound.
Deputy coroner Gideon Snook
said Russell was stubbed April
11, 1942, In an altercation with a
man identified on police records
as Bruce Logan Smith. Smith
died October 15 In the state men
tal hospital, authorities said.

TAKEN TO PRISON
Two teen-age Prineville youths
charged with contributing to the
delinquency of two minor girls,
Sunday were taken to the Ore
gon state prison to begin serving
18-month sentences.
The youths, Lester Howard
Fields, 18, and Leonard C. Shobe,
19, were taken to the prison by
Claude L. McCauley, Deschutes
county sheriff.
The boys pleaded guilty to
charges that they persuaded two
Terrebonne girls to accompany
them on a five-day trip to Vale.
STARTS PRISON TERM
Edgar Allen Pool, 26, of Salem,
Sunday was taken to the Oregon
state prison by Claude L. McCau
ley, Deschutes county sheriff, to
begin serving a five-year sentence,
for auto theft.
Pool was arrested in Salem
November 14, and accused of
stealing a car owned by a fiend
resident. He pleaded guilty to the
charge.
Sentence was Imposed by R. S,
Hamilton, Deschutes county cir
cuit judge.
