( Tliey said the demand, made yesterday by five republicans, came at a time when department officials were feeling most pleas ed about obtaining Ward's re lease from a communist prison cell in Mukden, China. Ward, the U. S. consul general In Mukden, and four of his aides were jailed for a month on charges of beating up a Chinese. The communists, under pressure of western indienarion. freed all five men this week and ordered them out of China. If the men are allowed to leave without fur ther incidents, many state depart ment officials believe that it would be "about as good as could be expected." But the five congressmen nil renublican members of the house foreign affairs committee 'denounced the case as "one of the most humiliating chapters in American diplomatic history." The congressmen were GOP Reps. Robert B.. Chiperfield, 111.; John M. Vorys, O.; Lawrence H. OFFICE PROWLED Prineville, Nov. 25 , Mystery surrounds a reported entry to the office of the Grizzly Lumber Co., located at the north end of Main street here, and two missing cheeks, both for substantial amounts. Manager Barnes reported yes terday that the office force, re turning to work Monday morning found evidences of a prowler in the office. Barnes said it is thought some one entered the .room with a pass key. Only the checks, however, were missing. The local bank and drawers of the checks were informed and pay ment stopped, Barnes reported.
