PAGE TEN THE BEND BULLETIN, BEND, OREGON Wednesday, November 23, 1949 ' Community Chest To Rural Areas Meeting at lunch Tuesday, six members ot the executive com mittee kicked off the campaign for community chest funds in the rural areas of the south half of Deschutes county, George T. Murphy. Pomona grange masrer in charge of this phase of the county chest, announced today. The areas to be solicited by this advance gifts group include Turn alo. Eastern Star, Alfalfa and Pine Forest grange districts. Judge C. L. Allen, Benjamin S. Russell, Tumalo; Clyde B. Will sey, of Eastern Star; Delmer Da vis, of Tumalo; George T. Mur phy and Kenneth Pearson, dis cussed plans for solicitation of an ranchers in the county, which will take place shortly. Thirty t prospects were selected for ad vance gifts to he handled through the committee. Murphy sched uled a report luncheon of this group to be held Tuesday, No vember 29. In all, some 500 ranchers and rural people will be solicited through workers recruited from the several granges, Murphy said. This phase of the community chest campaign will take place the last week of November, with a report dinner to be held for these workers in December, the dinner being given in tribute to the workers, by the county com munity chest organization. Philippines Scene Of Hot Fighting Manila, Philippines, Nov. 23 IP The government rushed army re inforcements to Matnngas prov ince south of Manila today In an attempt to smash an uprising of COO guerrillas in which 14 men have been killed in two days of fighting. Twelve constabulnrymen have been killed and six wounded. Only two guerrillas are known to have been killed. President Elpidlo Quirino call ed the uprising "very serious," but said he was confident rein forcemenrs would bring it under control. He said the revolt was an aftermath of the Nov. 8 elec tion "by people who don't con. cede my victory." . . "" Seven out of 10 workers polled hero said they would have to buy a new home if they had a 25 per cent bigger pay check. The poll of several hundred typical employes revealed that a new home continues to be the goal of the working man. The bal lot was taken at the New Jersey state federation of labor (AFL) convention, with delegates being asked to vote on Lewis B. Rosen stiel's nine-point prosperity plan to raise the national income to $.100,000,000,000 by 1954.
