Pork roast ha declined almost 10 cent a pound, reports from 20 cities showed. Bacon, however, resisted the downward trend and beef has re mained steady. The big shipments from the bumper spring pig crop sent Dun & Bradstreet's wholesale food price Index to a new three-year low. Agriculture experts sain they expect ail types of meat ex cept lamb to be plentiful through 1950, with prices relatively lower. Throughout the nation, news paper food writers and nutrlon tats urged housewives to buy pork to save money. Center cut chops were 20 cents a pound cheaper tn Chicago than a month ago and 18 cents cheaper In Philadelphia. At Boston, chops dropped from 99 cents to 75 cents. At Los Angeles, prices dropped 10 rents. Minneapolis reported that pork roast was down four cents, Wash ington eight cents. Kansas City and New York 10 cents. BR., MODERN home. Decline Shown By Steel Stocks New York, Oct. 17 iU" Activity in television shares featured lower, moderately active stock market today. The television group, a leader Saturday, dropped with the gen eral market early m tfte aay. Losses ranging to more than a point were noted In alt the Issues. They rallied substantially and some scored small net gains late in the session. In the main list, selling went ahead for the first half ot the session on predictions by Secre tary ot commerce Charles Sawyer that unemployment would rise to 5,000,000 by Dee. 1 ii the steet strike is prolonged to that date. Wail street has paid no attention to the steel situation for some time on the belief the strike would be short lived. Steel shares had losses running t more than a point but the lead er were better than the main group. They dipped fractions. Motors at their lows were down a ooint or more in the top issues. Rails had a severe setback, and the industrial list as a whole re ceived its wont drubbing since ; Sept. 20 when strike and currency devaluation news toon its toil. Kit . I , . . . ,1 v I 3w.
