Burt Shotton
May Be Ousted
As Dodger Chief
New York. Oct. 11 Mli Hranch
Rickey, piesldent of the Hrooklyn
Dodgers, today called Hurt Shot
Ion "a sound muunRer" but re
fused lo suy whether he would be
rctiiliu-d as the Dodners' pilot in
J'lf.0.
Rickey made the sniteini-nt In
the line of much "second-guess-Iiir"
over Sholton's dliectlon of
the Dodger In their defeat by the
New York Yankees In the world
series.
"Hurt Is a sound maniiRer,"
Rickey suld, "and I'll ro uIoiir
with his first RUess."
The Brooklyn prexy admitted,
however, one of his biggest dis
appointments was that "I'reacher
Roe did not pitch the lust Riime."
Hoc suffered a painful fiiiRi-r
Injury while pltchiiiR the Dodgers
to their lone victory over the
YunkecH, 1 to 0, lust Thursday. He
would have Is-en ttie IorIciiI
choice to pitch in Sunday's final
Riime, but was passed up In favor
of Rex Harney because the fliiRer
pulned him too much.
Coleman hud three doubles and
four RHI's; Robinson one double
and (wo RHI's. Afield, euch hud
one error.
Klrauto held an edRe afield over
Reese but the latter more than
compensated for Ills one error by
pultiiiR the "Scooter" in the deep
shade at bat.
Itivse bit .31G with two runs, six
hits, one double, a homer and two
runs balled in. Rlzzuto batted on
ly .1U7, soorlnR two runs and
knockiiiR in only one with his
three single.
At third it was Brown all alone
umonR the five who saw service.
'Pie Rolden boy In four Riimes hit
.500, top mark for the series. In
12 at bat he scored four runs and
knocked in five with his six hits,
one a double and two triples.
Fielding Not Brilliant
The fielders, while adequate,
were far from brilliant. WoodllnR.
In left for three Rumes, hit .400,
three of his four blows being dou
bles, and scored four runs. Her-
manski In riRht field batted .308.
for four Rumes. Retting four hits,
one of them a triple, and drove
home two runs. Thnt made them
the standouts In their respective
sections of real estate.
In center field you have to go
for the ailing DcMaRRio although
Duke Snider was brilliant defen
sively. The Duke made several
breath-inking catches but so did
DcMiig, playinR on nerve alone.
Snider out hit DeMagglo, .143 to
.111, but Joe had an edge with his
two RBI's and one homer. The
clipper struck out five times, but
Snider funned eight times, tying
a record set by Rogers Hornsby.
Hut the deciding factor in Di
Muggio's selection was the spurk
which his presence Ignited In the
Yankees. That was the one thing
the Dodgers lacked along with
hitting and pitching.
