a meeting of the state board of
the Daughters of the American
Revolution In Oregon City.
Mrs. Ray Bcssey of Tumalo
was a Redmond shopper Satur
day. Mrs. Cliff McCulloch and Mrs.
John Andrews, have been assist
ing with the potato harvest on
the McCulloch farm.
Miss Helen Keeney of Red
mond visited at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E.
Keeney, last Sunday.
Culver visitors in Redmond
over the week end were Mrs. J.
M. Freeman, Mrs. Sine Klinn,
Mrs. Ed Greenwood, Mrs. Dwayne
Hagman, Lorelei Hagman and
Mrs. H. E. Keeney.
Guests at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Warelng are Walter
Wareing. a son, and John and
Jim Bowie, nephews, from Wichi

Home Economics club Thursday
afternoon.

scheduled to meet Thursday, Oc
tober 13, at 2 p.m. at the home
of Mrs. Ray Rogers.
Mrs. Sam Johnson, president of
the Juniper Literary club, will
entertain the members Wednes
day at the Johnson cabin on the
Metolius river.
Mrs. George Brewster will be
in charge of the program which
will follow a 1 p.m. potluck lunch
eon. Initiation will be held at the
next regular meeting of the East
ern Star chapter, October 17, in
the Townsend hall.

Juniper Literary club for 1949-50.
Mrs. Carl F. Degner Jr. was
elected treasurer of the American
Legion Auxiliary at its last meet
ing, September 22, at the Red
mond grange hall. Mrs. Degner
and Mrs. Alma Watts, first vice
president, were Installed during
the session.
An overall and gingham dance,
sponsored by the Jaycee-ettes for
their husbands, is scheduled for
October 15 at the Townsend hall.
The Jaycee-ettes met Tuesday
at a come-as you-are party at the
home of Mrs. P. M. Houk, with
Mrs. George McKinnon and Mrs.
Mollis Titus as co-hostesses.
The group enjoyed a movie on
aluminum. The game prize was
won by Mrs. Art Miller. Mrs. Roy
Schambers was a guest. Mrs. Bill
Fisher and Mrs. Vernon Patrick
will be hostesses to the group
October 18 at the home of Mrs.
Fisher.
The American Legion Auxiliary
will serve refreshments to the
Neewollah paraders October 31.

surprised by the Home Econom
ics club Wednesday and was hon
or guest at a luncheon served
by that group.
Mrs,. Boyd Simmons will be in
charge of the dinner to be held
November 7 for all Masonic and
Eastern Star members and their
families.
Mr. and Mrs. Preston Young
have made plans to move to
Washington, November 1.
Bids for purchase of the old
manse, next to the Community
Presbyterian church, are to be
given to Trustee W. Stauffacher
in sealed envelopes. Purchase will
include the house, as is, with
plumbing, wiring, stoves, porches,
kitchen and bathroom furnish
ings. Money received will be ap
plied on the purchase of a fur
nace for the new building which
will be used for Sunday school.

the grand champion bull and took
four out of seven firsts in individ
ual classes for Hereford cattle to
day at the Pacific International
livestock exposition.
Meacham & Sons, Culdesac,
Ida., had the reserve champion
Hereford bull at the largest live
stock show ever held here. Idaho
Hereford ranch, Gooding, Ida.,
showed the champion Hereford
female and Herbert Chandler,
Baker, Ore., had the reserve
champion.
Grand champion bull among the
Jerseys was shown by Gordon
Farms, Carleton, Ore. Ernest
Child, Woodinville. Wash., has the
reserve titlist and George Horn

MAN CRUSHED TO DEATH

was killed and three persons in
jured yesterday when a North
ern Pacific passenger train hit
a split switch and rammed the
private car of Southern Pacific j
railroad officials. j
Joseph Bratton, 48, was crushed
to death alter pushing one work
man clear. They had been stand
ing on the tracks behind the pri
vate car of L. P. Hopkins, SP
superintendent.
David Markham, Portland, was
pushed to safety by Bratton, po
lice said.

who was convicted of treason two
weeks ago.
George Olshausen, the attorney
for "Tokyo Rose." pleaded for
release of Mrs. d'Aquino ponding
outcome of Iter appeal to the
ninth U. S. circuit court of ap
peals. He nrgued she should be
bulled out because the defense
