The committee agreed that senti ment in Bend, at present, Is against such an innovation. Me ters would curtail the use of wa ter here, however, and might ease the summer crises until a new water supply can be obtained, it was explained. Also mentioned, in passing, was the possibility of storage reser voirs in the hills, to build up a re serve supply at the pipeline source; additional river water that may become available if the Benham falls dam Is constructed, and using present storage as re serve during the summer, by di verting the pipeline flow direct ly Into the mains. Drost protest ed that excessive pressure would be a major problem, in the last instance. It also was brought out that irrigation of city parks requires an estimated volume of water adequate to supply 500 homes. It was not suggested that the parks be permitted to dry up during the summer, but it was proposed that underground water struck in drill ing at the Harmon playflcld might be used for park irrigation. This water, on one test, was found ' to be contaminated, presumably . from city sewage, It was pointed out.' The committee was provided with summaries of the water sur vey report compiled by John .W. Cunningham and Associates, Portland wdter engineers, for more detailed study. It was agreed that the next meeting will be held Tuesday, October 11, at 8 o'clock in the city commission room.
