Sisters has not as yet pro vided any city funds to help to ward the support of its library, but is now being asked to do so by the county board, and it is hoped an arrangement will be worked out before another year. Borrowers Increase Now nearing its 30th anniver sary as a county library, Ihe Des chutes county unit boasts of more borrowers than ever before, the total being 10.G1G as of July 1. i The total book stock is now 29,59a i with a goal of 30,000 set by the the aoth year in 1950. Of this i number some 22,967 are at the Bend headquarters, the remainder j belonging to Redmond and Sis- i ters branches. j Total circulation in the county ! for 194S-49 was 190,772. 75,085 of ' this being across the desk at Bend j to both city and rural patrons. ' Listening Room Popular One of the most interesting as pects of the library's business has been the rise in the use of the listening room by the- juvenile population. There is hardly an afternon the room is not In use. with youngsters waiting their turn to play records. Due to the simplicity of the machine, even children of pre school age are per mitted to play records for them selves. Record circulation for 194S49 totaled 7396. a far cry from the 1001 records the first year they were circulated, 1942, it is pointed out. Gifts of good usable books, In good physical condition and of the type likely to appeal to the general run of readers, are much appreciated the librarian stressed, as it will be some time before the regular book budget will be able to catch up with increasing de mands and the loss of books on the bookmobile.
